breastfeeding and being a mechanic.... (someone in the milit

posted 21st Jul
is it really true that eveything that touches my skin goes straight to my breastmilk? i really really really really wanna go back to workin in the motor pool as a mechanic but i have been told by higer ups in my company that if i am breastfeeding i wont be sent back. i will be stuck in the stressful ass office i am in now (which has nothing to do with my mos) or i will be moved to another company to a job that is actually somehow part of my job and i would never see the motor pool again. i dont know what to do... i love the benefits of breatfeeding but i dont know if i can and do the job i was trained to do... rumor has it we are getting deployed next year and i dont want to go down range not having been doing my job for almost a year....

can they really keep me outta my job? and would it still be healthy for the baby to become a mechanic again?

no not everything you touch goes straight to your breastmilk. That is something you should talk to the doctor about and tell him what type of chemicals they use

Things that come into contact with the skin or are inhaled are rarely absorbed into the maternal bloodstream in significant enough amounts to reach the milk. Airborne pollutants probably have a far greater negative effect on babies who don't have the protection of mom's milk.

it was saying that if your baby is going to be around the fumes (i.e. on your clothes, skin, etc) It is better that you breastfeed as opposed to not. Breastmilk helps build up babies immune system and since it will be hard to keep "toxins" away from baby completely it is better to breastfeed.

haha It's ok, i was rambling a little I think.

I would think the same rule as smoking would apply. It is better to BF and smoke.... than to smoke and formula feed. B/C smoking increases SIDS but BFing reduces SIDS.

So I would think if your baby is going to be exposed to the fumes regardless it would be better to BF.

I concur....

I have never heard of a job keeping you from a job for a reason like that, I believe that would be discrimination...

sadlly enough and i hate to say it but i am in the army and they do sometimes do crazy shit like that. i mean yea they have my babys best interest in mind but... i dunno there isnt really anything i can do about it. i mean i can but i really dont want to go through all of that cuz the process takes way to long cuz there are always like 20 different investagations... so... that and i think my nco in the motor pool may not want me back in there... i dont know though... i just know i really wanna go back to the motor pool and i hope there is a way to bf and be a mechanic again. ya know
