ugh...i am so upset with her!

posted 21st Jul
so my four year old Courtney, she's a very smart little girl. first let me start off by saying i've NEVER had a problem with her eating her veggies until she came up here to visit my mom in March. but now i can't get her to eat any. she used to love green beans, broccoli well anything green but now all she wants is meat and potatoes (like her dad...ugh!) so today for lunch she had chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans. and do you know what this little squirt did??? she ate all the chicken and potatoes first. so then i'm like "Courtney eat your string beans" and she goes "ok i'm gonna make a happy plate" so she starts shoving them in her mouth. i thought she was eating them but come to find out she held them all there until she made a "happy plate" and then turned to me with a mouthful of string beans like she's about to puke. so i told her to spit them out. now she's restricted from watching television or playing with toys for the rest of the day. am i being too hard on her? and what can i do to get her to eat her veggies...oh and drink water? HELP PLEASE!!!!!

no you arent being too strict on her, but arent kids funny? veggies are important and you need to do what you need to do in order to give them proper nutrition!!!!! good luck momma

I've always hated greens. When my mom tried to make me eat green beans when I was five, I threw them behind the refrigerator. She wasn't too happy when she found them, lol.

You were not too hard on her. You are only wanting what is best for her and unfortunitly on this issue you are going to have to be firm and sneaky. My4 year old went thru a phase of not drinking water or milk so I stopped buying any thing else to drink, she gave in! As far as the veggies go.....your going to have to figure that one out on your own, only you know what strings to pull on that. Good Luck!!!!

yes indeed they are. i just can't believe she pulled a fast one on me. i'm just so worried that i won't be able to get her to eat them. i want her to be healthy and i just don't know what to do anymore. i'm gonna try that pediasure. maybe that'll help her get the nutrients she's not getting from eating veggies

For the water thing, I'd maybe buy some of the little kid size water bottles. For those you can buy the little drink mixes with vitamins to help keep her hydrated.

i'm gonna try the not buying juice or milk. and let her go out and play in the hot sun...i'm sure she'll ask for water then lol. but for the veggies situation i'm gonna get her some pediasure. that way she's getting some of the nutrients she'd get from eating veggies...for now

Good idea but I wouldnt substitute too much, she'll think she's won that battle! Plus that takes the place of juice too cause its like a milkshake! Be careful!

that's a good idea!!!

Oh, and what my sister does with her daughters, (they are 5 and 6, and they eat dinner around 6:30) is when dinner time comes she tells them the minimum amount of each portion of food they have to eat that's on their plate. If they don't eat anough of what's there, whether it be veggies or fruit or their protein, she sends them straight to bed after their baths. They miss the extra play time they have when they eat the right portions of their food, so the next day they always eat what's on their plates.

she said if i bought her carrot sticks and veggie dip that she'd eat that so i guess that's a start but she's probab;y bluffing. she's a very sharp little girl (as you can probably tell by the stunt she pulled today) i'm going grocery shopping tomorrow and i'm gonna let her help me pick out some veggies she thinks she'd like

yeah that's why she's on "punishment" today lol. i'll probably let her off after she's done napping though. i'm gonna try everything. she can't go her whole life without eating veggies like her dad. honest to God, he doesn't eat any type of veggies besides corn and it used to bug the hell out of me when we lived together cause i wanted him to be healthy to. i told you you can't expect to live a long time with the eating habits you have...i don't care how much you work out or how many protein drinks you drink

My son is a lot younger so i have never try this yet but beechnut when they sent me coupons sent me a thing about this book called The Sneaky Chef by Missy Chase Lapine, it's suppose to be simple strategies for hiding healthy foods in kids favorite foods. I'm going to get it myself when my son is older but if your daughter keeps not wanting to eat her veggies it maybe a way to make sure she's still getting veggies even if she doesn't know it. I hope that helps a little at least.
