Today is going to suck. Help me!

posted 21st Jul
So today I have to take my Maddy for her kindergarten vaccinations. Mind you the last time she had shots she was too young and oblivious to care. Now fastforward to 5 years old and she is a SPAZ about everything. How am I going to get through this? She will cry for the rest of the day. Bribery won't work because tommorow is her birthday and I spent all my money on presents. Help!

Lollipops or tell her she can do something fun. It worked for my 4 yr old who was clawing on the floor to get out the door so she wouldnt get shots!

I just took Jaden last week and he screamed bloody murder and was upset for half an hour afterward. I'm not one for bribery at all, but a treat afterward and some TLC for the rest of the afternoon calmed him down.

Did you sit down with her and explain to her why she needs these shots? This may just be me- but I have always been really open and honest with my son about any medical procedures he is going to have. I think it makes a huge difference. Of course he will cry when he gets a shot because- well- it hurts obviously. But he is prepared for them before hand and realizes why they are necessary so he calms down quickly and we just go about our day. He's 4 and this is pretty much our usual routine for doctor visits. Since your daughter is 5 I am sure she is cognitively ready to understand why vaccinesare important. Give it a try. And good luck to you both!

umm, let's see, my kindergarten shots, I actually remember them well... my mother had to drag the chair I had wrapped myself around all the way across the waiting room... then chase after me when I leapt off and tried running out the door... then they had 7 nurses hold me down while I was screaming bloody murder... ended up kicking one in the face... umm, and when I had to get my bloodwork done whileI was pregnant I needed 2 therapists, had to take 4 xanax and my hubby bribed me with a bunny and a car... not sure about the car, but does she like bunnies?? lol

I explained to her, and it made it a little better. Although she did clear the office out with her screaming

My BF and I were talking and we both swear we used to get shots in our buttcheek? Didn't we ? Now they get them on their legs...
