Motor skills at 6 months...

posted 20th Jul
Hey January '08 mommies!! (And anyone who can help!)

I was just wondering what your little ones are able to do at 6 months? Kaelah will be 6 months on the 24th...she still cant roll over or crawl. She has this wierd backwords push that she does. When she's laying on her back she'll kinda push herself with her legs...I can do tummy time for maybe 10 minutes before she starts freaking out and crying.

What am I doing wrong?? What can i do different to teach her how to roll over? She's done it a couple times but I think they were on accident. Is it still normal to not have a 6 month old roll over? I know that she's a month or so off of crawling, so I'm not really worried about that.

Other than that, she's saying "da", reaching out for things, babbling all the time, squealing, laughing, loves to stand, and sings along with me when i sing to her, it's so cute!

Sorry ladies, its been on my mind the past week and had to ask!

Try more tummy time. Get down with her and hold her attention so she won't cry as fast. My son isn't crawling yet either but he rolls and sits unassisted.

Sorry momma, I'm not sure. Lucas has always seemed to be ahead a little bit. He started rolling both ways around 3 months and he started crawling last week. He says "da da" all the time and just started saying "ma" yesterday.

Honestly though, if your pedi isn't worried about it I wouldn't be either. Eventually she'll get it.

She sounds like shes doing good to me! Babies all grow and do things at different ages, shes mobile in her own way which is great, and the other stuff will come, if your worried call your pedi and ask for an evaluation, they are more than willing to answer any questions or concerns you have,

You're right, I guess I should just do more tummy time, i usually do it2-3 times a day, but as soon as she fusses i pick her up because i feel bad.

I forgot to add she can sit unassisted now too..

My son is 6 months old too and he cant roll over all the way only from tummy to back. He scoots around some times but really i cant get him on the floor as much as i would like cause of older children trapsing all over him. Oh and my son loves to stand too. I dunno know what it is they are like screw you im walking lol. My son walks up me sometimes.

She's fine. My doctor told me that rolling over isn't actually considered a milestone anymore, it totally depends on the kid and how much time they spend on their tummy. But, they don't NEED to roll over to learn to sit or crawl, etc, so some kids just skip it all together. Sounds like your little one is doing just fine!

Dont worry, some babies are just lazy (usually the chubby ones lol). She probably has no desire to go anywhere, so therefore she doesnt. I'd bring it up to your pedi, but honestly its really nothing to worry about at this point.

LOL, she's definitely a chubby one. Lots of rolls! Thanks for the advice!

Kennedy figured out how to roll from back to belly at 4 months, but at 6 and a half months she STILL doesn't know how to roll from belly to back. But she can sit unassisted for a few minutes, and she scoots around on the floor (but not crawling yet).

Just keep her on the floor, even just on her back - she'll start figuring out more ways to become mobile. But she certainly doesn't sound like she's behind tho.
