posted 20th Jul
caden has loved solids ever since he was 4 months old. he usually has cereal and bananas for breakfast.. and meat and fruit for lunch, and meat fruit and veggies for dinner. whole cans. this past 2 days he will gag on his food and make himself puke. ill be almost done his bowl of food when he makes himself gag and then pukes. hes doing int on purpose i can tell. he laughs about it. it cant be that he doesnt like the food because ive been giving this to him for the past almost 2 months. hes being rediculous. ive had to wash his highchair, his reclining seat and his clothes over and over because he continues to make himself puke and hes driving me nuts. he takes his bottles and plays with them.. only eating 2oz at a time.. when he usually has 6oz. he wont sleep.. he gets up 5-7 times a night for the past 2 nights only to eat a couple ounces, look me in the eyes and laugh.. then fall back asleep. hes 6 months old and im wondering is hes learning how to manipulate me... also.. whn he doesnt get wahat he wants.. like a bubba for bed.. or apple juice instead of pear.. or a cup instead of a sippy he SCREAMS at me.. and when i go to put him down for naps he hits me and screams and i dont know where hes getting this from. hes being (i hat eto call him this... but hes being) a BRAT. please help me.i cant discipline an infant.. so what do i do. its not like time out is a choice or taking away dessert. but hes making me so mad.. becuase i swear he knows what hes doing and whenever i get mad he laughs at me. hes always been emotionally intelligent and hes always been a bright little boy since birth.. even the doctors were amazed by him.. please help me out.

I would say it's just a phase. I work at a daycare and kids do that all the time. They think it's funny to dump there plate, spit out there food and milk. I wouldn't worry to much about it. I've learned that if you take the food away when they start doing that, then they eventually start to learn that if they mess around, they are hungry! Maybe try that. ... if your really concerned I would call your Dr.

i would say the same thing. if hes doing that, hes not hungry, or he would be busy eating his food and not playing with it. let him eat as much (or little) as he wants, just offer it more often and take it away as soon as he starts. and if your worried about him being hungry, remember you're feedi9ng less, more often.

I do not think that a six month old is intentionally doing what you are describing. He could be getting too much or he is getting things caught in the back of his throat. I know my six month old gags on stuff sometimes. I cannot imagine a six month old doing that but then again babies learn things at different rates. I would ask the doctor or wait it out.

Or you couldtry only giving him breakfast and dinner. I started my kids out on breakfast then we would do dinner and then lunch was next with table foods. For each stage though. For instance, introduction phase, I did the 1st foods until we went through the cycle of first foods and oatmeal and rice cereal. Then with the intro of second foods we uped the number of solid feedings. Once we get to the 3rd's we will introduce lunch. It could be he is getting too much toothroughout the day. He still needs formula at this stage and probably a little more formula than solids.

It could also be the heat why he is not eating much too. DO not know where you live but Iknow that my kids always eat a time during the summer where they eat less than what they normally do. He could just not be hungry at the time.

This is just my opinion though.

Well i dont think hes getting too much.. because hes eaten this ammount for almost 2 months now and has been happy with it.
Hes gagged before but when he does it upsets him.. this is different. he eats then gags himself and laughs.. he pukes all over. if i dont feed him more he SCREAMS.. and when i do he makes himself puke. he wont take a bottle a few times a day.. he wants that solid food. it just seems like a game to him. or at least what eating has BECOME to him recently. its not the heat.. its been real hot for the last month.. this week has been nice and cool.70s.

Well, all I know is that you could take away the food and if he screams let him. I mean it is better than cleaning up the puke and stuff three times a day right? I understand that he doesn't want a bottle but he still needs it at least in the morning and in between feedings. My 6 month old gets a bottle in the morning solids at about 10am then a bottle at 1 (for nap), then bottle after nap, solids for dinner (about 5 or 6 pm), then a bottle at 9. He eats like crazy and yes, he still wants all the solids he can get but I try to at least give him his bottles so he still gets the formula. I just do not know what else to tell you. He could be going through a phase but I have never heard, until know, of a baby doing something like that intentionally.

He's probably trying to be more in control, think about it the only 2 things you can't actually make him do is Eat, or sleep. you can try and feed him, but he doesn't have to, and he can always do like he's been doing, spitting it back out when he wants. Same thing with sleep, you can always put him to bed but you can't actually force him to sleep. I would think your best advice would be to try not to get upset when he does these things, basically that same old advice that if you react so will he.

I did not think about that. That is some sound advice.

Omg Kiley's been doing that too lately. She's just been sooo messy. My mom keeps yelling at me saying "she's a baby, they make messes" but I'm the one that's around her 24/7 and she's just not like that normally. I guess it is just some kind of stage.
