School Supplies
posted 19th Jul
So my Hubby and I went to get Jonathan's school supplies today. He will be starting Kindergarden this year. Well, I had $150 set aside to get everything with, and figured I wouldn't end up needing all of it!
Boy was I wrong! It cost us $200 friggin dollars for his supplies!! WTF do we pay taxes for?? Do they not supply ANYTHING?? We had to get everything from, head phones for computer lab, to BLUE sticky tak! WTF does it matter what friggin color it is?? They didn't even have any blue! So they will use the yellow, or they can shove it up their asses!
Why do they have to be SO specific?? They want Handi wipes (Rectangular box, not round) Whatdoes it matter what shape thecontainer it is?? Guess what... No rectangular boxes in the store. So their getting round!!
Then, on the first day, I have to pay $30 more. For what??? I have no Idea!! The paper says "Donation"! I thought a donation was where you gave something out of the kindness of your heart! Am I wrong here??
I understand, and have no problem with, the fact that they need help getting some of the stuff. I don't mind helping. But jeez!! Come on people! this shit is ridiculous! We DID NOT have $200 dollars to spend on that stuff. Now we are $50 short on grocery money!
I guess we are lucky, because it didn't REALLY hurt us that bad, but what about the parents that can't afford it??
Maybe that is why we had to buy multiples... Like 6 boxes of crayons, and 3 packs of copy paper... To help those that really can't afford it. I dunno, but it pisses me off that they ask for so much. I am stressin it too much, I know!
So... What do you think about your kids supply list?? Is it better, just as bad, or worse?

Well they're getting worse year by year. I cringe to think of how they will look in 5 yrs when Grant starts school. I remember when I was in school all they wanted was paper towels and tissues lol. Maybe some glue or crayons. Now it's insane. I also think it's to help the less forunate parents who can't afford all this for their kids, but also b/c the school budgets (here anyway) have been getting cut like hell. Not that that's an excuse... did you shop for supplies at Walmart? I know at my Walmart they were having a HUGE sale on school supplies.

I wouldn't mind helping out thise who need it , but I seen a school list for here and they want dry erase markers for the teachers?? Erasers for dry erase boards? red pens for teachers? I don't know why we should have to buy for the teachers. The school should provide all of this.

Yes I did, and No, there was no sale! lol! I wish their had of been. I know that some parents can't afford to get the stuff, and had it not been for the Stimulus check, we wouldnt have either. It is just crazy at the amount of stuff they want now. What happened to last years headphones?? The main thing that bothers me is how picky they are. They are not having to buy it, so wtf does it matter if you pull the hand wipe out of a rectangle or round box! I can't wait to see next years list! Better start saving now!

I had to look up my sisters' school supply list for my dad, and it wasn't nearly anywhere near that specific or bad. It'd cost maybe 50 bucks at the most (not including gym shoes).
Sad thing is, he will probably hardly use half of what you had to buy I remember always having to "get" all of these things, and I never used them all. Really, do I need six bottles of glue? No, haha. I always found ways to get around having to buy 10 notebooks or anything like that. We had A & B days, (diff. classes each day) so I would buy two 5-Subject notebooks- the ones with the little folders in the sectional piece. One for each day.
Did you go to the super school supply sales- i.e. Walmart, Target? I know that Staples has really good school supply sales too, but I am not sure when it is.

Yeah, I had to get dry erase markers too! And it specified Expo... Guess the off brand wouldnt have been good enough for them!

Haven't gotten my son's list yet. But last year he was in public pre-k. We only had to provide tissues, hand sanitizer, and a folder to keep there. I was told that anything they HAD to have, HAD to be provided by the school system b/c of those who can't afford it. So, with him being in Kindergarden at a different school, and a new year, I'm not sure how they are going to do things.

I guess my walmart is special then lol. We also live right on the Florida state line so that might have something to do with it as well. I think the rectangle boxes stack better? LOL. Idk. I wanted to be a special ed elementary teacher (still do really) but I'd feel bad asking for all this stuff. Thank goodness the gov't did something right with those checks huh?

Yeah that is crazy. I don't understand it. Why do we pay taxes out the ass to still have to provide stuff for the teachers. Hell go back to chalkboards it is cheaper to buy chalk than expo markers.

Yeah. It really was a life saver for us. I was supposed to get 9 (I thought) and I only got 6, but it has bought all of his cloths, and his supplies (all but the $50 worth) All I have to get now are his shoes, which will only be $50 or so. So I can't really complain too much! Well.... I guess I can, cause I did LOL!!!
