Breastfeeding and the baby blues...

posted 19th Jul
I think I might have the baby blues. We just had our baby girl on 7/10/08 and I love her very much but I can't seem to stop crying. I cry over the smallest things. I mostly feel scared that I'm not going to be able to take good care of her and be able to provide for her. I know I love her but I don't feel a very strong bond with her. I am currently breastfeeding her and I feel very over overwhelmed with everything and the fact that I'm lacking sleep. My husband helps me as much as he can but since I'm the only able to feed her I start to feel helpless. I'm even starting to think that I should just give her formula. Please help me. Did anyone go thru the same thing? What can I do?

Have you tried co-sleeping? I found my daughter slept much better because of the closeness and I got more sleep while breastfeeding.. And no I didn't have problems transitioning her to her own bed..

Oh hun I am going through the same thing! My daughter was born 6/25 and things are getting better. But there were so many days I just wanted to give up and give her formula instead. I've managed to keep going though and you will too!

I had the baby blues with my first, and cried all day and all night, but at exactly one week it went away.I just woke up and majically felt better-gotta love hormones!Just keep nursing, because it is a constant and it will make you have skin to skin contact which will help you to bond. Also take some of the pressure off yourself, parenting is a learning experience and it flies by, so just sit and study her while she is sleeping, the dishes can wait, and take a bubble bath, and cry as much as you like the more the better, cause I think ya get it out faster than when you supress it!I remember crying then feeling bad because I would make my girl wet, but they dry and she didn't care as long as she was fed.Good luck mama, we are here for ya!!

i hope i dont get stoned for this... but IF it doesnt work out and you feel its better emotionally for both of you if you did formula, that would not be the end of the world either. just continue to be diligent with it and if things dont improve in a few wks reconsider the formula option.

Same here with the co-sleeping and I was always very against it, but with Logan it has been so much easier.

I am also going to breast feed if all goes well. I am going to pump as well so I won't be the only one doing the feeding. They have some great pumps out there. Someone mentioned co-sleeping. I would ONLY do this as a last resort. I am 29 years old and my mom and dad had me sleep with them and when I was about 3 I had to get the boot because my mom was pregnant with my sister and she was afraid I would kick her. I can remember being thrown into my bedroom and getting up in the night just standing at my parents bed wondering why I couldnt sleep with them. It was tramatic for me. Please dont do this!
