my last name

when i was little and my parents got divorced my mom wanted to change her last name back to her maiden name. me and my brother would have hated that becuase it would have like cut a rift in the familys my half sister my mom then me and my brother and i want my name changed so my baby dosnt feel like i do when i was little. i want my baby not to feel left out that mommi is contreras and she is freas. but the problem is that my family is really anal about our last name becuase they always made a jar of prayers when they found out we were born and every one said please keep our last name always did but i dont care so my question is is it disrespectful to my family if i change my name whne im 18?

why dont you use both names. i think that way when the baby becomes an adult, i believe he/she can choose if they want to keep both or just use one... or you can hyphenate and it would stay together.

Maybe do a hyphenated version:
Contreras-Freas

to sidestep that whole issuse, hubby and I decided to name our baby with both of our last names. Because we both kept our last names.

Who cares, it's your name. You are becoming an adult, so weigh the options and decide whether you feel you have a good reason to do so.

OR do what I did and use your maiden last name as your middle. My maiden name ia Arias therefore I go by Jessica Arias Clark. I love it! I get to keep my maiden name which I love (the little part of me that is still hispanic...lol b/c my husband is whiter than a surfer boy ) and I took my man's name cause I love him! WIN WIN

My neighbor and best friend growing up , her parents had a divorce when she was just a baby. She kept her dad's last name until she turned 18 her step dad legally adopted her and she changed her last name to his.
her paternal grand parents didnt like it to well...but she didnt care.
