Prenatal Vitamins Question

Okay so when I first found out that I was pregnant I was attending these classes at a Pregnancy Clinic where I received free prenatal vitamins. I've noticed that everytime I take the vitamin for about an hour or so afterwards I feel really naseauted and my head gets on fire and my body just starts to feel really out of it. All I ever wanna do is just lay down... The feeling that I get is really hard to describe. It's really weird and I hate it. Is this normal? Or should I talk to my doctor and switch prenatal vitamins?

Apparently everyone gets that. I never did though.. I'm not sure if they have SiSu vitamins where you are, but look for them at the health food store because they are supposed to be really easy on your stomach/head. Most people don't have any problems with them.

Some prenatals have dyes in them and some other things that can make you nauseous. I have found the ones I got work great. I bought them OTC at costco...it is a bottle of 300 for like 25 bucks and they are a brand called Naturemade. They work fine and don;t make me sick. They usually sell them in smaller bottles at Rite Aid or Walgreens etc. Also try to make sure and take them with food and if they still bother you take at night before bed.

Sounds like an allergic reaction... Do you have any common food allergies, like wheat or gluten?.. Some people are also allergic to the "fillers" or dyes used in processing..




ETA: Becoming nauseas might be normal.. but the other feelings don't sound normal to me..

It's normal.

I always take mine when I eat lunch or dinner, it settles my stomach and I never get sick. I wouldn't ever take them without eating first. Or eat and take them in the middle of the meal or whatever. I used to get sick because I would take them right when I woke up and not eat yet.

Mine make me feel sick if I take them in the morning. I take mine before I go to bed at night. That way my body absorbs it without me getting sick. If that doesn't work I'd talk to you doctor...he/she could give you a different one.

You could be allergic to it. Or maybe just try taking it at a different time of the day? i took mine in the morning for a while and it made me real sick so everyone said to take it before i sleep.

K thanks I'll probably end up asking my doctor about it... and I'll bring these up to her.

Switch. Not all prenatals do that. I never h ad that issue with my last pregnancy, and so far, I haven't with this one.

I have no other allergies that I know of. I have never had any issues with any other medicines or anything I have ever taken. But I have never been subscribed to such a massive purple pill before! LOL... So you think I should change and also talk to my doctor and have her help me get prescribed to some?

When do you take them?

Haha, I got EXACTLY the same thing. You have 2 options, take them right after you have a big meal, this really helps. OR, start taking flinestone vitamins until your next dctrs appt. and then ask him to switch your mediciation. I was taking these big orange pills and my doctor perscribed me for something called premises or something and there a bit smaller, blue pills that work GREAT. i haven't gotten sick at all!  

Mine made me vomit with both pregnancies so i stopped taking them but ate lots of veggies and fruits.... and both of my little ones are healthy

Yeah this is what I thought at first. That I was feeling this way because I would take it right in the morning sometimes without eating. But now I have been eating and this is still happening...

This is an option I guess for a while until I get things figured out. I will try and take it before I sleep now... maybe that might help...
