Don't shop at Asda (Walmart in the US)

posted 19th Jul
As the title says don't shop at Asda (Walmart). Apparently they can overcharge by £15 for a breast pump if you order it online because the terms and conditions say 'the prices may vary in store.' Wankers.

And now for the story.....

I bought a breast pump online with my grocery shopping because it was on sale as being £10 - which is a great offer considering all shops sell them at around £25.

I got my shopping on thursday and they had charged me £24.97 for it. Chris' mum phoned up for me and the guy on the phone said he would put through for a refund because he could see it was £10 on the website.

Today we get a phone call from Asda while we were out so Chris' mum took the call for me.

They said they weren't going to refund me because that's the price it was and the terms and conditions clearly stated that the price may vary in store. She kicked up a fuss and they said they would phone her back. The woman who phoned never stated that the pump had been on promotion.

They phoned back and said that the promotion had ended that day so they weren't going to refund me.

NO-WHERE on the website at any point did it say the breast pump was on promotion - I checked as I knew, if it was on promotion there would be a cut off date. All it had was the blue exclamation mark thingy for the guidelines etc. No rollback sign or multisave sign next to it - nothing.

Also even if the promotion did end that day it should still have been £10! Because it wasn't midnight so the offer hadn't ended! But apparently according to them if the promotion ends that day, then you don't get it at the reduced price - in that case the offer should have ended the day before!

Both when I checked out the shopping and when I got my confirmation e-mail it said it was £10. And it was NOT included in the savings bit at the bottom where it shows you how much have saved in the multisaves etc.

If I'd known it was going to cost me £25 I would have flipping budgeted for it! But because THEY ****ed up, it screwed up my money by putting my shopping up to almost £80! When it should have cost me around £60! Now considering I only get £95 every two weeks that is a hell of a lot of difference! And meant I had to go into my maternity grant just so we could buy meat for the fortnight and bog rolls!

Chris' mum is phoning trading standards about it on monday to see what we can do. And they're coming to collect the breast pump on monday, so I can get ALL of my money back. I don't care that it costs £25, it's the principle of it. If I had known that, that is what I would have to have pay then it wouldn't be an issue. But the fact of the matter is: If I was in store and it was priced at £10, and the person at the checkout tried to charge me £25, they wouldn't be able to do it! So why should it be any different if I check it out online at £10?! I have still checked it out! Why should they be able to charge me £15 extra?!

It's just the fact that now I have to find somewhere else to shop online, and I STILL don't have a breast pump, which will be a problem if bubs has trouble latching on. I felt prepared as I had everything needed, but now I feel like a bad mum because I may not be able to get a breast pump now before bubs is born. Plus the stress of it is causing me to start cramping again. I don't need the stress for crying out loud, I'm 36 weeks tomorrow. It's also the fact as well that they tried to fob me off by offering me £5 in e-vouchers, how the fuck is that going to help me in the meantime with buying the meat and bog rolls? And I've had to go into my budget for the baby because they fucked up.
