Gowns or "pajamas"

posted 19th Jul
I was debating on posting this in parents with infants, since they are dealing with it right now BUT oh well. I'm thinking Justin and I have pretty well decided to put Grant in gowns when he is smaller to sleep in, it just seems more convenient than the alternative of onesie and some pants especially when you're waking up and changing diapers all throughout the nite. What do you put your baby to bed in? I'm mainly concerned that the gown won't keep him warm enough since it only bunches around the ankles and doesn't really close. This is a pic of what I mean when I say "gown":
ETA: I also just saw this, wal-mart.com calls it a "wearable blanket" I guess it's like a sleep sack deal? Does this look much better? But it's sleeveless, wouldn't that mean his legs would be warm and his arms cooler then?

I was just about to post the something similar! lol I have some converter gowns, can be either a gown or a sleeper, I got them at Carters. I don't have a lot of sleepers for newborn or 0-3 mo should I buy some??

Honestly, I'm going to. When he gets a little older and start sleeping through the nite we will probably put him in PJs like a onesie and pants, or shirt and pants. When they require so much overnite changing this seems more convenient. Especially when you're half asleep and needing to change a diaper, I don't wanna be fussing with snaps and pants and everything else on top of a squirming baby too lol

Since most newborns are usually swaddled in the begining for their comfort, as it reminds them about being in the womb, he will definitely be warm enough in a gown! Just remember to keep his head covered with a cap, so the heat doesnt escape through his bare head!

I think they wear a sleeper or something under it, it's more of a blanket.

We put Nic in gowns in the beginning.....
But soon (in less than a month), he was out and never put in them again.
They seem like less of a hassle but if you've got a scooter baby, they're worse than pants. My son would wiggle from the top of the bassinet to the very bottom and be all scrunched up in the edge with his clothes all bunched.
Either way though, the look convenient, but they're not. True, no snaps and such and you can just pull them down, but they get in the way.
My son hated being wrapped up and confined also, and those made him fee like he couldn't move freely.
Plus I didn't like the way they look.

What are the odds of him throwing off a cap in his sleep and maybe getting hurt?

So when you left the gowns, what did you use? And what would you reccomend using in the place of gowns?

When my daughter was a little older, it was easier to put her in one of those sleep and play outfits with a zipper, rather than pants and a top. In the middle of the night for a quick change, it was easy to just slip her legs out, change the diaper, and then get her legs back in, zip up, and your done, no messing with snaps. When I was half awake, I always missed a snap and then had to start over. zippers were better!

I don't think u can shop on carters.com, we have an outlet here I just go there. Walmart also carries a carters brand of gowns, they have matching caps. They just had them on clearance here.

So something like this? Target.com calls this a Microfleece Dreamsie and by the sleeves I'm assuming he wears it alone...?

My daughter was a preemie, and couldn't regulate her body temperature, so wearing a cap on her head, wasn't an option. Honestly, you're up with a new baby so often, you will see if the hat scoots off. Plus, if it does slide off, its most likely off in the front, and still stuck under the back of the head since they can't lift their head anyways!
