Mottled skin/PPS Murmur

posted 18th Jul
Does anyone know if it's common for babies to have mottled skin when they aren't cold? Brennan gets this pretty often, and I'm kind of concerned because I know that it sometimes can be related to heart problems. Brennan has had a murmur since his first Ped. visit. His doctor has checked it 4 times so far, and said it was a PPS murmur and nothing to worry about, but didn't bother to double check with a pediatric cardiologist. I also read in my baby care book that heart murmurs detected between the ages of 0-6 months are usually NOT innocent, and should always be double checked by a cardiologist. What do you think?

The mottled skin is perfectly normal until his little body can fully regulate its temperature, which will happen in a few more weeks. If you are worried about his heart, demand that the doctor refer you to a pediatric cardiologist, or just look one up and make an appointment. Even if it does turn out to be nothing, then at least you will have peace of mind.

You're right. Even if it's nothing, it's worth a trip for the peace of mind.

Okay, thanks! My mom works for a medical malpractice firm and was telling me about a case they have involving a baby with heart problems whose symptoms (one of them being mottled skin) were ignored, so I started to worry because of the whole murmur thing.
