Bathtubs

posted 18th Jul
So do any of you know of a store that sells baby bathtubs that are a bit bigger? My son has outgrown his baby tub but we live in the country and have a holding tank so when I use a plastic tub, I can just dump the water outside (instead of it going into the tank - which is expensive to empty). Plus my back is a mess and the only tub we've got in this house is really deep so it's just easier to have a plastic tub... Anyway, if any of you have seen any larger plastic tubs, let me know!

If he's able to sit okay, one of my friends just got those big plastic tubs (for holding toys or beer   ) and would use that when she was camping. That, or rubbermade tubs work great if he can sit, and you can get whatever size you need and he can still move around a bit. I'd use a non slip mat though.

I had that one. Works well, but I think you would have a hard time bringing it outside to dump it - it works just like an inflatable pool.

This is my quacking issue:

I didnt mind that the tub made noise, but I didn't know that it did (got it used from a friend) and when I was blowing it up I pushed on the beak and it started. Scared the crap outta me!

if he can hold his head up they sell seats that suction cup to the tub.

IMO I'd just skip the baby tub and get in the big tub w/him. I've done this w/both my kids. Piper loves "splashy time" she can splash all she wants and it's tons less messy. I just have to make sure my husband is home to help me get her out of the tub. Saves you from having to waste money on another tub AND it builds great memories.

Thanks everyone. That's not a bad idea about the rubbermaid bin or the inflatable one. I wonder if they sell the ducky one around here...

Monkyn & Coco's Mama: Yeah, I've put him in the big tub and he loved it, but (and this sounds stupid) it uses so much water (even that little bit for him...it's a HUGE tub) and considering that it costs $185 every time we want the holding tank emptied, we're super careful about using water. Usually, with the baby tub, I just put a hose in it and suction the water out into a bucket to dump out. It's kind of bizarre...the house is super modern and super energy efficient, but we're dumping water out the windows to save on having to get the tank pumped out....

that makes sense. I don't have a tank so, I don't worry about it. I didn't even knew tub/sink water went into a septic tank. I thought that was just toilets.

Yeah, ironically, I didn't even know septic tanks and holding tanks still existed. Then we bought this house. It's a dream house...it's big, it's bright, lots of windows, there's a lake, literally two minutes away (walking), a field behind the house, bald eagles flying overhead. Just a dream to live here....except for the water situation. I've never had to be so careful with water before and this is a total learning curve for me. And it would make sense to me too that grey water would just go out somewhere and only toilet water would go into the tank. But apparently not....

Can I come live w/you? We're from Seattle and used to spend weekend in vancouver. I think I miss pine trees and bald eagles more than almost anything from the north west. looks like we are here in dusty dirty ugly texas for a big chunk of our life too..... If we can't move back while the kids are young we are def. 100% retiring either in Western WA or Oregon. Dorothy had it right when she said "there's no place like home"

LOL Sure! As long as you're willing to take on the lawnmowing and the weeding and the non-stop vaccuuming! But you're right about the northwest. I lived in DC for a few years and although I miss it now and I had a great time out there, there was something amazing when I got back to the west coast. I drove back and when I got to Colorado and the Rockies, I remember suddenly feeling like I was finally home.
