Nephew *long*

Ok, my 14 year old nephew is coming to stay with us for two weeks (do not even get me started on how I got bullied into this while pregnant and cranky)anyway he has had multiple behavioral problems: kicked out of multiple schools, no friends etc. anyway from what I can tell it seems like most of the kids problems are his parents, whenever he gets in trouble it's never his fault, no repercussions for his actions etc. Around me he is usually a pretty good kid, but I do not have the energy to keep him in line and here is my pressing concern and it may sound silly but, his mom was telling me how she had to go over to his fathers house to do the kids laundry so that he had clean clothes to pack, so I asked her "ummmm, doesn't your 14 year old son know how to do his own laundry?" and she said, "well, he does it sporadically, you know he is in that phase where he doesn't care if he is clean or dirty so when he gets to raunchy for the adults we usually end up just doing it for him." ummmmm, WTF!?!?! Granted, I've never had brothers or anything, but aren't they usually out of their not wanting to bathe phase by 14? Does anyone know if this is normal? I don't think it is, but like I said I know nothing about 14 year old boys.

My friend's little brother is the same way.

He's 15. Rarely showers. Rarely washes his hair [it's a curly, mass of crap. It seriously looks like pubic hair.] Always wears gross clothes, doesn't know how to do his own laundry, and doesn't know how to cook [except for crap.]

If that kid ever had to come stay with me, he'd get his ass kicked.

Yeah it's pretty well normal. My bro well the older one is 13, and shows no signs of wanting to grow out of this phase anytime soon. Some boys go through it and some don't...but I know my bro if my mom didn't hound him to brush his teeth bathe etc etc he enver would. But he still doesn't do his own laundry b/c it would never get done if my mom left it up to him.

I understand how you feel.I have a nephew that just does whatever he wants to. He does no wrong in his dads and my in laws eyes, because they feel sorry for him because his parents are divorced. SOOOOO!! Mine were too but I didn't get to do whatever I wanted because of it. I drives me insane. My husband and I are the only ones that really makes him mind. I really don't put up with any crap so he hates me.lol I really don't care he IS going to mind me.

Ok, so it's not just him, that's reassuring. Yeah, my husband has already decided that he will not put up with it. My hubby basically raised himself and his little brother and sister from the age of 13 on so he has no patience for a 14 year old who cannotdo laundry etc. It should be an interesting trip to say the least.

I dont know if this will help at all, but my sister is 14 too. she acts like she cant do anything for herself, she wont even order a pizza cuz she doesnt like talking to strangers on the phone. My mom doesnt seem to care, she spoils the crap out of her, she does anything that my sister asks her too. It bug the hell outta me because we were raised to be independent. My moms been a single mother for 10 years now, and you would think that my sister would be able to fend for herself by now. My mom works all day and my sister is forced to feed herself, do her own laundry and everything else, but she still acts like a litlle cry baby. My opinion is that its all a call for attention. Thats probably the issue with your nephew. Is he an only child or does he have siblings?

I hate the people who decide kids can do what ever they want just because they have a hard home life.

It's just like.. suck it up. Life sucks, but do something so it will be better for you when you can get out of there!

This is exactly what it is like with my nephew, except his parents have given up on him, they are so busy acting like 14 year olds themselves no one bothers to raise him. His father told his mother "whats the difference we know he is probably just going to end up going to jail anyway" and my sister who I love dearly isn't going to win any mother of the year awards anytime soon, since her and her husband separated she lives like a teenager off traveling with multiple BF's and getting pissy when she has her son. Last year the poor boy called me the day before his birthday asking me if I knew where his mom was because he had called her celll and gone to her apartment and she wasn't there. She was in Hawaii with a BF, had been there for two weeks andhadn't botheredto tell her son.

Yeah It drives me crazy. He tells me that he hates me. lol It doesn't phase me I just say that is great. You know he is 14 yrs old and I shouldn't have to tell him to take a shower or brush teethor whatever. Damn boy just do it.. He is the only one out of all the kids you have to stay on. My in laws say I am too hard on him. Well if they dont like dont send his ass to my house. lol can look at him and make him cry.lmao Putting up with no shit here.

All I can say is lay the law down when he gets there and put up with no shit..My nephew called today and said that he hated my daughter already cause she was going to take attention away from him. If he would have been here would have went off.
