anyone on mirena;

im getting my placed tomorrow and had a few questions.

1- is it painful to get placed?
2- will i be able to use tampons after it is placed or will i need to use pads for a while?

2- you can use tampons same day.

about it being painful i guess it depends on the person. Theres lots of links with peoples stories. For me i only cramped a little bit. It didn't hurt.

i have paragrad not mirena...

it was not painful..i started my period right as she was putting it in..which was great since the cervix was open and ripe...

i use a tampon all the time.

It wasn't painful at all....& yes you can use tampons. I suggest stocking up too. I bled for 3 months straight after getting mirena put in.

Obviously there are different experiences with the Merena because when I got mine it DID hurt. It wasn't excruciating (sp?) but it felt like a moderately painful contraction...but fast, so that's the good part. I think the reason I have memory of it is because my doc didn't even warn me it might be uncomfortable. Just go into it expecting some pain, then you might be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't hurt.

Now getting it out, for me, didn't hurt one bit. I didn't even know she did it

I ended up paying 300 but they covered most of it.

and my husband is in the army so we have tricare and they cover it

I had to pay almost $500. But I figured my BCPills were $20 a month, so in 2 years it would have paid for itself, and no worries about taking it on time.
Crazy that insurance will pay thousands for a delivery but not hundreds for birth control....

Insurance did not cover it for me. Medicaid will cover it though for those who are interested and want to have it done. We paid cash for it but you can set up a payment plan for it with the makers of Mirena as well.
