6wk old CIO

posted 17th Jul
how do you feel about letting a 6week old CIO? I only want the opinions of other mothers who have or had a 6 week old and can relate. I have fed her, burped her, cuddled her, repositioned her she is not hot or cold and I just changed her diaper. I sat her in her swing which is normally my "saving grace" lol but she is not happy unless I am holding her and rocking her. Do you think maybe she is overstimulated and just needs to CIO, it is breaking my heart

Could she be tired? When my daughter gets too tired I have to hold her and she will just cry until she falls asleep.

Is she colicky? sp. She could be tired. When my daughter was around that age she would cry for hours while I was holding her until she fell asleep. Maybe take her outside for a couple of mins for some fresh air.

6 weeks is too young to cry it out. They are not adjusted to the outside world yet till about 3 months old or so. Its the "4th trimester theory" She probably wants to be cuddled. Babies get insecure and want to be cuddled. They are used to "being held" for 24 hours a day while in your stomach. Now they have to get used to being held for considerably less time. Are you sure it may not also be gas? Holding her and rocking her to sleep should not overstimulate her.

I never did the CIO; I personally don't believe in it. Baby's cry for a reason. Maybe she has a bad gas bubble. I would just keep holding her and comforting her. Hope she is better for you soon dear.

Have you tried a car ride? She might just want you to hold her, i know my son has been a pain the last few days and once we get in the car and just drive he's happy doesnt make a sound. Once we get back home he wants to be held until he falls asleep.

If your getting stressed then that's probably making it hard on her to calm down too. And 6 wks is still too young to let her CIO. I didnt let my son CIO until about 2 weeks ago and he's going to be 6 months in a few days. And even when i do let him CIO he only does it for 3-5 mins before i make myself calm down and then try and calm him down.

i dont think colic, becuase she is easily soothed as soon as I pick her up.Possibly gas? she will be fine and then all the sudden SCREAM and then fine for a couple mins then SCREAM I have been giving her mylicon after every feeding though

My newborn is only about 4 weeks ...so I understand how you feel...but I have done a TON of research on the CIO method...(b/c an in-law of mine tried to tell me to do it) and ALL research says no way..and that it can cause alot of emotional damage to the baby (e.g. lack of trust towards you and etc.)

My daughter tends to cry and cry during a few periods of the day even after ive done everything but it always ends up being that she just wanted to be held and comforted

The gas drops as I have been told by my pedi. that they only have a less than 20% chance of working. So they might not be working for her.

yea that is the same thing I read too, thats why I never wanted to do it. But I felt like, well I have tried everything and maybe she is just overstimulated and needs to be sat down to relax a min. it didnt last more than a minute and a half before I picked her back up lol
