they can usually survive, but a baby isn't considered full term until at least 38 weeks, when they're fully developed

I hope you are not planning on having yours at 31 weeks!!

Babies can survive pretty well at that gestation, but will likely need at least a month or more in the NICU.

I believe a baby is viable outside the womb at 25-26wks, with a lot of medical attn. If you think you're going into preterm labor then call your doc asap. They will usually try to stop early labor until about 35-36 weeks.

It's not something you want to happen. Generally I think the earliest they want a baby born is 36wks, that is usually when they experience less lung and respiration issues. At 31wks their vital organs are still developing, usually they do fine in the NICU but nothing is garunteed.

ITs definitely too early for most to be able to breathe properly on their own. They will usually need help for a few weeks until their lungs are more mature. But most babies born at 31 weeks have a great chance of survival and normal development if they are otherwise healthy. Its ideal to let them get to at LEAST 36 weeks though, prefferrably 37 which is considered term...

well if dr thinks he needs to come out he'll probably do an amnio to see if the lungs are mature enough.
