BABY TEETH!!!! (HELP)

posted 16th Jul
Ok so I am guilty of letting my son hold on to the bottle for a little too long. It was shortly after his first birthday that I finally made the switch permanently to a sippie cup... Now my baby boy just turned two and has two small cavities on two different front teeth. *sighs*
Now I tried to take him to the dentist that my sons doctor recommended, but when I called the office they told me that they had a separate office for their "medicaid" patients...  I was like oookkkkk so I called that office and made an appointment even though I felt like it was kind of weird.
When I took my son in on that day I let the dentist peek at his teeth. (he hasn't complained that his mouth hurts, he eats fine I just noticed the small formation on the two teeth and was concerned) The first thing that comes out of this dentist mouth is "Well they are cavities.... and what we are going to have to do is put him under general anistesia(spelling?) and put caps over those two teeth.
I was like ummmmmm... Then he proceeded to tell me he can go ahead and get all the paperwork ready b/c since this was an "operation" and my son would be "put to sleep" I have to sign all of these consent forms.
I couldn't believe it. Put my son, who hadn't even turned two yet, TO SLEEP!!!! WHAT!!!! So I asked the dentist as calmly as I could why would we need to put caps on teeth that are going to fall out anyway. Was there anything ELSE I could do.
The dentist kind of sighed and rolled his eyes then said "well you could keep brushing his teeth really good, and make sure the cavity does not get any worse, and the teeth will eventualy fall out"
I told him that is exactly what I intended to do. Now ladies has anyone else had this problem with your toddlers teeth? What did you do about it? I do not want my son's mouth to be ruined for life!!!   And has anyone had issues with medicaid where when the practicioner found out they tried to recommend the most expensive treatment right off the top???
I know this was long... sorry

my daughter had cavities on her two front bottom teeth and they never suggested surgery or caps he just said that he could drill them out and she would have a small gap, but that was only if she began to complain that it hurt. if they didn't hurt then just let them fall out. which was what happened. i don't see the point of doing something so drastic for something that isn't permenant.

WEll if he has cavities on his teeth that haven't fallen out, he can also get them on his premenant teeth that are below. My sister has the same problem when she was younger and my mom decided just to let them fall out, turns out to be they new teeth have cavaties too and still needed to be put to sleep to cover them

I just took my little girl to the dentist because of a cavity on one of her front teeth. She just turned 3 a few days ago. The first Dentist wants to put caps on all 4 front teeth and said she needs fillings on the two back upper teeth. He said it was because of sippie cups. The cost is $4005. That does not include the hospital or the Anastasia!! I took her for a 2nd opinion to a dentist recommended by 2 of my firends. The second dentist was shocked at the 1st wanting to do all that work. I am taking her to have the filling done on Tuesday. The cost is $129.00 total. I called my dental insurance and they said I don't have grounds to file a complaint since the first dentist did not do any of the work - shocking. I next called "The Virginia Department of Health Consumer Protection Complaint Unit" They feel I have grounds to file a complaint, which I am going tofile after the Tuesday appointment. I want the 2nd dentist to look at her teeth again before I file just to make sure. I am also going to file a complaint with the ADA. It is always shocking to me what people will put childern through to make a buck.
