C-Section Recovery

posted 15th Jul
Hi! I just want to prepare myself if in case I'll have a c-section, how long did it take you to recover? Were you able to stand up after a few hours? Or days? Thanks!

I was very numb and couldn't even move my arms for a couple hours (but I don't think that's normal). I didn't walk until about 12 hours after surgery. I started to feel pretty normal after about a week.

I was up the next afternoon after mine... hurt like hell but I was determined to get up and walk around (might have taken so long for me to ne ble to get up since they decided they had to move me room the next morning and ran my bed into the wall 3 TIMES!!). I managed to walk to the bathroom and back that time... then the next time it was up and down the hall of the L&D floor and back to my room. Again, hurt like hell and I couldn't stand up on my own for about 2 weeks... but it got better with time. Just make sure you take the pain pills BEFORE it really starts to hurt bad. Being pre-emptive makes a HUGE difference. Now it's 4 months out and it DOES still hurt sometimes (especially when Aidan kicks the crap out of it!!) And it's still numb but I figure it will all lessen with more time...

With my first c section I did really well (besides eating...I couldn't keep solids down!) I was walking great and upstairs within 2 days (I had a lot of motivation though ...My daughter was flown to another city and I was told I couldn't be released until I was walking). My second was a little bit harder...but I think it's because my baby (the father lol) babied me too much. He did everything. However, I never need painkillers for either of them. Don't get me wrong I was still sore and had certain problem areas afterwards...but it didn't take me the 6 weeks to recover...on both of them I was driving, vacuuming and stuff within 3 weeks.

Ugh, maybe I should respond when Iam better. Iam 6 days pp and had an emergency c-section. Hurt like hell and couldn't figure out why I wasn't progressing and pain meds wern't helping. Dr. confimed today that I have an infection in the insicion site. Started strong antibiotics and more pain meds b/c I had to take 1 every hr 1/2 and I was out! I'll let ya know in a couple of days how its going. Oh, and Iam pumping on top of it all which brings on extra pain!

I had to go under general anesthesia and it ended up making me throw up as soon as I woke up... omg, WORST PAIN OF MY LIFE!!!

I was wondering that too!! I had a morphine drip afterward and was STILL in so much pain... then they just sent me home with those damn percocets that might as well have been sugar pills...

The morphine didn't even do anything for me. They had to trade it out with demerol and I had to wait every 20 mins to hit the button! Iam telling you, I went through HELL and haven't made it out yet!

uggh I hated that morphine... it really didn't help much for me either but it stung like a b*tch going in... I actually had it the night they induced me... twice, just to help me get to sleep... which I never did...

I at first didn't want to take any of the pain meds the offered me...but after I attempted to shower with out any.. I realized the pills were needed... I am 2 weeks out and still really sore...while in the hospital I couldn't walk far with out needing to sit down and had to sleep on my back for a week because it was so uncomfortable to sleepon my sides. I thinkit's different for everyone though, everyone has different levels of pain tolerance.

HI, ladies! Thanks for your input... I'm kinda nervous about having a c-section now... Though at this point, the baby has his head down, last checkup it wasn't engaged yet... I really really don't want to have a c-section now - OR be induced which can lead up to that...

I hope you all start to feel better soon... People have been telling me to beware of the pain of nursing too! I hope I don't have to contend with both

now the nursing for me, never a pain... in fact when Aidan was latched on right I didn't even really feel it... too bad I couldn't for long...

I had my daughter in 2005. And honesly for me it was the worst recovering..BUT the hospital I was at were very old schoolthey did a great job just very old school. I was on a liquid diet for 2 days, wasnt able to get out of bed for a day. and the meds they gave me didnt help at all. So going home it took me about a week or two to get back to normal... and I still got sharp pains to where my staples where and numbness in my stomach which honestly didnt go away for about two years.. It was a tingling numbnessfeeling. I know that may scare you even more..BUT that was 3 years ago and my first just had her baby last year through c-scetion and she said it was a very good recovery she was up the next day and the meds they gave her were great. So things seem to be a lot better now.   So dont worry I am sure you will be fine. if you have any other questiosn i will try my best to answer them.

I had my first c-section in 2003 and my recovery time wasa breeze. I had a spinal with morphine to help with the pain for the first 24 hrs and then I was allowed out of bed (that was ordered by the hospital). After that I moved around with no problems and felt great, now this is coming from someone with zero pain tolerance, so I'm very proud of myself! They took the staples out before I left the hospital1-2 days later (we had to stay b/c my son had jaundice) and I basically took tylenol for the pain which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I did have a burning sensation around my incision, but that was about it. I think the only pain I did have was peeing for some reason after they removed the cathereder my bladder hurt like heck when I tried to pee they said it was b/c I had a catherder in for 24 hrs and basically I had to reuse my muscles again(ooooookkkkkkkk). My suggestion is if you have a c-section try to move around as much as possible and what is allowed it will help you heal faster, just don't go to extremes. Also carry a pillow around with you b/c if you have to cough, sneeze, or laught you will want that right next to your stomach to support that incision if you don't trust me you don't want to know what that feels like! I'm going in for my second c-section this friday and I'm a little freaked out b/c of hearing that second c-sections are harder recovery time but I have my fingers crossed!!
