Sperm?

posted 15th Jul
I just read in my what to expect when your expecting book that when you get past 30 weeks that you should start using condoms to prevent pre-term labor... Because sperm is a natural inducer?  Anyone ever been told this, my doc hasn't mentioned anything.

Sperm will only soften the cervix if it's ready to soften...so as long as your doctor is fine with you having sex, you should be fine. Sex will cause some BH though, but nothing to worry about  !

Sperm can help soften you cervix. But only if your cervix is ready to soften. Its ok to have sex.. A lot of women have sex all the way intill the go into labor. My bf and I have sex a lot and I'm twl weeks late so your good.

haha that's funny.  Yeah, I just thought it was odd because they kind of made a big deal about it in the book

yeah, some of the questions people ask in there are pretty ridiculous too, I guess somebody has to ask though...

Actually, I went into pre-term labor at 30 weeks because of having sex. I was having contractions every 2-3 min that lasted about 6 hrs and started to dialate my cervix. Needless to say, after that incident my dr put me on pelvic rest (NO sex) until 37 weeks.
However, when we started having sex again at full term, it did nothing. I ended up going 8 days overdue.

So with all that being said, I wouldn't worry too much. Just be aware of your body.. and if you do start to have signs of preterm labor, don't be afraid to call or go to the hospital. If you don't wait too long, they will be able to stop it.

Wow...you went from nothing to labor because of one act of sex? I'm sorry! My water broke during sex, but I was 2 cm dialated with contractions to start with (from 35 weeks on).

I'll change my previous statement:
Sperm will only soften the cervix if it's ready to soften...so as long as your doctor is fine with you having sex, you should be fine. Sex will cause some BH though, but there shouldn't be anything to worry about. However, if you have any signs of labor, please call your doctor and abstain from sex until you can discuss it with your doctor.

I apologize for the mis-wording  .

Haha it's okay..
I concur
