Breast Feeding Moms

posted 15th Jul
Quick question. My mom never breastfed with my self or my brother so I can't ask here. When the time comes I would like to try it. I was just wondering. Did your child or yoruself favor one side over the other or did you use the right for one feeding and then the left for another? I worry that if I exclusively use one side over the other my breasts will sag differently or something. I just wanted information from other mommies who've been there. I feel more comfortable holding babies on my left side but I don't want something to happen and dry up the milk on the right if I don't use it.

Any opinions or advice is welcome!!

I would feed her on the right for like 10 minutes and then feed her on the left for the rest of the feeding. If you do one feeding on the right and the next feeding on the left you will find as you get more milk that one boob will end up empty and the other one will still be full causing you to look a little off-balance lol. Not to mention it's uncomfortable.

you can switch sides each feeding or put baby on both breast at each feeding. you cant just use one side at all times though cuz the other will still be producing milk and will get rock hard. not recomended

I think all babies prefer one side to the other. I would start out on the side they didn't like as much. Most of the time they would just eat from one side so I would start with my right then next feeding the left and so on. Definately don't use just one side. Alternate each feeding starting with one then going to the other one, then at the next feeding start with the one you finished with last time then use the other one.

You switch sides. Either 10-15 minutes on each during 1 feeding or you can do 1 feeding on the left, 1 feeding on the right (that's what I do).

I feed whatever side feels fuller. If I see one boob starting to get bigger than the other I will feed on the smaller one for a couple feedings to even them out.

Alessandra and I both favor the left side. But I force her to take the right side every other feeding lol.

Parker prefers the Left, he rarely latches on to the Right side, so I pump that side.

they say to start on one and then move to the other in the middle of the feeding... however, you can feed your child w/ one for one feeding and the next feeding feed your child w/ the opposite.

I was told after your baby is a couple days old that your child should eat on one boob for at least 15 minutes to make sure that they get both kinds of breast milk.... after 15 minutes if you feel your child isn't getting any from that breast its okay to change them to the other

I breastfeeded my baby for 1 yr 1/2 (until I found out I was preggo again) and my advise to you is: try to feed your baby w/ both breast evenly. when I gave birth I felt more comftarble holding my son on my right side so I breastfeeded him mostly with my right breast... well little did I know that my right breast was going to get bigger than my left one. Luckly after I stoped breastfeeding him my breasts got the same size. LOL!!!!!!!!!

It was always easier for me to feed my daughter on my left boob because that left my right hand free, but I'm going to try to be more even this time around! My left boob is noticeably bigger than my right now...not sure if that has anything to do with breastfeeding, and most people don't notice it unless I point it out and they stare, but it bothers the crap outta me! You can always pump on the non-favored side though to even things out some.

My right side has always produced way more milk than my left. I just feed on my right side first then my left for a few min to finish him off. I went crazy the first few months trying to even them out but it never worked. My boobs are 2 different sizes so that sucks but I just wear a little padded thing on my left side so I look normal. My right side is a E and my left is a D.

You definitely have to switch, but  not before you empty one side out. I made the mistake of listening to my MIL who said I should switch every 10-15 minutes, and I ended up developing a foremilk-hindmilk imbalance. My son had horrible gas, and green poop, and wanted to eat CONSTANTLY because he was not getting enough of the high calorie, high fat 'good stuff' that he needed.   I let Adrien nurse on one side for two or three feedings, and then switch. My boobs look pretty even  Besides, it's a common myth that breastfeeding is what makes your breasts saggy---it's actually the amount of weight you gain or the distribution of weight gained during pregnancy.
