Sounds about right...since it includes maternity coverage. BCBS wanted almost 300 per month from me NOT including maternity because I have MILD asthma. I miss haveing insurance through work.

bluecross blueshield screwed us over.
my deductible was 5000. however, i was pregnant when we got on the insurance, so they would not cover anything because they consider it a pre-existing condition. i ended up having to get medicaid because otherwise there was no way we ever would have been able to afford it with bluecross not paying anything.
here is a breakdown of my billing
2500 is what my OB charges for the entire 9 months + delivery
800 for 2 ultrasounds 1 at 8 weeks for bleeding, and one at 20 weeks
1400 for my sons hospital bill (this is for his stay, the hospital fee of delivery, and etc.)
1500 for my epidural
and 4000 for my hospital stay (went in fri at 5 pm, left monday at 10 am)

this is just my estimated costs, each dr and hospital is different.

you could try a manged care plan or a HMO. no necessarily medicaid. It all should go by your income and how much you can afford.

I believe if you get it there a company it's cheaper. I have blue cross blue sheild, and when I went to the ER for kidney stones, it was about 4,000.00 worth of charges. I haven't gotten the bill yet, but I have a 150 copay and that's it. I'd rather pay 150 than 4000.00.

Wow...is it really that expensive in the US??? I'm currently in the UK and pretty much everything is free (well taken out of your paycheck lol) except perscriptions which are cheap anyway...I'm moving back to the US next year (possibly the year after, all depends on DPs orders) How the heck am I ever going to afford to have kids over there if he gets out of the military???

You ought to consider yourself lucky BCBS gives you those rates. Here in Maine our rates are just beyond stupid! For a family plan that includes myself, my husband and our son it would cost us a little over a $1,000 a month!!! Talk about high rates, and we're non-smokers and are 23-24 years old!!!

I used this website to find quotes from all the different companies in my area: http://www.ehealthinsurance.com/

I'm hoping to get health insurance soon, but I'd rather my husband change jobs than us have to pay for private insurance!
