That isn't the case. Carlos was not able to get his California Id or SSN until AFTER he got his greencard.

My husband got his greencard in two months and his ID and SSN in another month. I think it just depends on the start you are in.

It depends on the application times in each state yes...but at any rate, he had to have the green card first before he got the other things.

The fact that she is here illegaly they could end up punishing her by sending her back for a certain amount of time or fine them heavily. I have a friend that was here from Mexico, and was here legally with a study visa, and had a permit to work here. She got married to a San Diego Police officer, and a few months later she had to renew her visa. They won't let her come back even though she is married to a US Citizen, for 2 yrs, because they said was supposed to notify the consulant about her marriage the same week (she thought that since her visa expired soon she would updateher info when renewing) Plus she changed jobs. So they are punishing her for 2 yrs, and now her husband has to go down and visit her every weekend in TJ.She speaks perfect english, never done a crime, and pays taxes, and is in College, and she came here legally, and did everything legal, except she didn't know that she had to notify them right away when something changed. The marriage laws don't makeit that mucheasier. She shouldmake consultation appt. w/ a lawyer. She will need one anyways to help her with the paperwork,

Yes..she can't apply for citizenship yet. She has to have permanent residence status first for a few years....and if her homeland passport expires before getting her greencard she won't be able to travel until she becomes a citizen and gets a USA passport. If it doesn;t expire for a while she will be able to use it to travel ONCE she gets her greencard.

Yeah and it is a touchy subject.... My husbands brothers are still trying to get their papers. They would have had them already if it wasn't for 911. They work really hard and would do anything to help anyone out.

The thing that upset me was the way she said it...
