have a few questions

im getting these tests done wednesday and i am just curious as to what they are and what they do.
1. Maternal Serum Quad Screen
2. cystic fibrosis screen

i know what the 2nd one is for but im just curious about how they go about it and what they do. im also getting a test for diabetes too. i am hoping someone can answer these questions and tell me what they are for and what they mean and how they do it if they do it the same way.

The quad test for downs sydrome and spina bifida and 2 other things I think.

I havent' had either and the amount of false positives from those are outrageous

Maternal serum is juct more blood work, I'm not sure about the cystic fibrosis screen though.

both testa are blood work, i had them done 2 weeks ago with no knowledge at all, and just took them with not hesitating, until last week i got a call back saying my down syndrome test came back positive, im sure u can imagine how that went. all the girls here told me i shouldnt have taken it but i didnt know any better. the quad screen checks for Down Syndrome, Edwards Syndrome, and any malformations in the babys spine.
yes its sad theres lots of fasle positives but be prepared. the day i got the call was literally the worst day of my life. they told me my chances of having a DS baby are the same as a 35 year old woman 1/252, and im 26, healthy, never did drugs or smoked nothing and we dont have this in the family. so just be prepared for anything and good luck!!

aww thanks guys i was just wondering i knew what some of them meant but i wasnt too sure. im glad i have people i can talk to about these things.
