24 weeka or not that is ridiclous.....sorry to hear that some ppl are stupid and other ppl have to suffer and an hour that had to be really good! that really makes me mad if that was me I would be killing ppl

So they doctors just called he is off his blood pressure medicine and in a few days he should be weigned down to the cpap mask. They said sometimes when they are that small and they go down to the mask they do good for a couple days but sometimes have to go back to the ventilator for a little bit. Im going to go spend the day with him and when hes not under the photo therapy lights i will take some pics. I love the fact that i get to see him with his eyes open and talk to him. I cant wait to see him smile. Although he is way early I know he is going to pull through and just being with him is so comforting.

Oh that's great news! I don't quite understand what the cpap mask and other stuff is, but it sounds that he is doing really well. Ibet you are really proud of your little miracle for being soo strong and doing soo well.

Don't feel bad if he has to go back to the vent for a little bit. My daughter was struggling so much on cpap that it just broke my heart. I actually asked them to put her back on the vent so that her little body could rest, but they wanted her to stay on the cpap and work through it. It's a great milestone though! He's really making amazing progress.

That's so sad..I'm sorry.   Wow..what a little fighter..stayed alive for an hour on its own.

Josiah is adorable. Isn't it great when they get to come out from under those bili lights and you can acutally see them?

First of all, Congratulations on your little miracle.I am new on here and my son was born a year ago at 24w6d. It is amazing that there is already talk about weaning to cpap he must be doinf well. They didnt try to wean my son for the first time until he was 1 month old and then they had to use steroids to help him out. Long story short the meds made his BP rise and he never could finish them. Like the other mom said he may go to cpap and not be ready and have to reintubated but it is still a huge step to even get to try. My son finally made it to cpap after 75 days on the vent but then he went from a high flow canula to a regular canula in a matter of a couple weeks. He came homeafter 130 days on Oxygen and is still on it but doing very well.

Were you able to get the steroid shots prior to delivery? They seem to make a huge difference I unfortunately didnt have time to get them.

As far as not even trying to save a baby before 24 weeksI to believe it is a shame. The youngest preemie to date I believe was born @ 21w6d.

Yeah i was able to get the steriod shots. I was admitted on 6-29 cuz my water started leaking and they were gonna keep me uptil i deliverd. We were hoping it would be after a couple weeks but he had his own agenda. It makes it so much eaiser talking to people who have dealt with preemies... they really are amazing and such fighters.

That's why my babies came early too. It really sucks when your water breaks because there's so little they can do about it! Glad you got the shots though, I'm sure they're really helping him out!

Oh yeah it does. At first when they did the stem test they were like you tested negative. I was getting ready go home and the pad i had under me had amniotic fluid. They did and ultra sound and sure enough. Since i had a rescue cerclage when i was 17wks and i was 3centimeters dialated I ended up getting a minor infection that caused my water to leak. I know that was a big risk but it work long enough.
