Homeschooling?

posted 14th Jul
I was wondering how everyone thought about homeschooling?

Good Idea? Bad Idea?

i would LOVE to do it with my kids, but i honestly am not smart enough to be able to teach my kids the way they would learn in school, but it is something that i think is the coolest thing for moms that do it and want to do it, i give them all the credit in the world

I was homeschooled, (for two years, fifth and sixth grade) and I know a lot of kids who were.

It's TOO much time with your parents. I HATED it and so do most kids I know.

I think school is VERY important for social development. The homeschool kids are almost always socially "off" a lot.

I won't be homeschooling.

I think a good alternative is half homeschooling and half real school. or if you want to because you think the schools aren't good enough, private school.

Since you are a teacher will you give us your reasons for not liking it?

I was homeschooled from 6th grade to 12th grade...

I HATED it... because I missed out on soooo many things i feel.

I used to be extremely shy I still really can't relate to anyone my own age.
I get along so much better with older people. lol

Iworked at a private school, and there are several students that came form homeschooling. Every one of them expressed how much happier they were with being with kids their age. I think it is important for socialization. But, if you are really hell bent on it, then I suggest making sure your child is involved in several activites that involve children their age. I think it's also important that they are around children with different interests and beliefs.

I agree that it's too much time with your parents. I would love to homeschool, but I would have to hire a teacher/tutor to do it. As for socializing I would definitely enroll my kids in as many sports/activities as possible to make sure they get the peer interaction they need.

I actually think my parents used it as a way to control me and keep me in a box. lol.... away from boys mostly...

When I went to college I was EXTREMELY nervous and very clumsy.
But I quickly got over that shyness... i am definately not shy anymore lol.

I am completely against it. I think there are 2 reasons kids go to school. 1. To learn of course and 2. to be around and interact with other kids their age.
