re: Homeschooling?

Quoting Ashley Nichole *Evil Bitc:“ I was homeschooled from 7th grade on. The school system where I lived was crappy and I was so depressed ... [snip!] ... it's great! Especially under circumstances where public school just isn't working for medical, educational or personal reasons.”

I could see a rationalization for home schooling in special cases. There are times when it may be better for an individual child. It could be the school system or it could be the kid. Some kids don't function well in the structured school setting. I can think of ADHD children as an example. However, most parents of ADHD kids send them off to school so they can get a break... lol...

Generally speaking though, for most people public education will teach academics and social skills....

Has anyone ever met someone who was brillant in thinking, but couldn't hold down a job where they had to work with other people? Intelligence is not just reading and math. Social intelligence is accepted by most educators and was written about extensively by Howard Gardner. Those powers that be, the elected officials, who control testing, etc., by state do not. They only care about intelligence that can be measured.

LOL - I remember my dad trying to explain math to me when I was younger. He would get so frustrated with me if I didn't understand what the hell he was talking about. Or the best was when I didn't know how to spell a word and he would tell me to go look it up. I would always say "If I can't spell it - how can I find it in a dictionary?" LOL

Another issue is responsibility. In school when a child doesn't complete and turn in an assignment - there are consequences. I don't think too many parents would lower their childs grade when something is not complete

I remember I had several tests and my mom left me to do them... I simply went and got the teachers books and copied the answers... hahaha... she caught me and was extremely upset... i felt bad... haha...
I even told her "I think i'm gonna get good grades on these" haha

Well my husband was thinking about homeschooling but i said no not unless we have to. Because i do want my kids to be social with other kids and be able to play sports and all that good stuff.....and plus when they get older and its just like let them go to school instead of homeschooling them it would be better....But we are stil discussing that matter...lol

Whatever floats your boat. Personally, I want my daughter and future children to attend school. I think it is good for any child.

Those that choose to home school should give their child(ren) the option of attending regular school once they can begin to ask to do so.

Ialso could not do it, lol. I have no patients for that.
