Stop-loss..

posted 14th Jul
I watched the movie last night...it was pretty decent..and I am pretty military ignorant lol so I don't know if it is an accurate description of the military or not. but what does everyone think about a solider being stop lossed? Is this a real threat/scare to any of you military wives? At the end of the movie they said something about before 2007, I wanna say 670,000 soldies, 81,000 of them were stop lossed..and since 2007 none of those numbers have been released.. what do you all think? It's basically a draft within the soldiers and I couldn't imagine it happening to me, or my family.

(for those that don't know, being stop-lossed is when a soldiers tour is over and they are supposed to return home, but are forced to go back and serve another tour. If they chose no, they are commiting a crime..a-wall (sp lol) and will serve time in prison...)

It's true as far as I know. I live near an Air Force and Army base and the guys are always at the local Wawa bitching about it and how no one knows about it but the military

I just had a baby 2 mo. ago.......#2 and I am out October 16th this year and my company is on alert. Set to deploy January and ship March 2009. I am in the clear if the orders come out AFTER my ETS date, BUT, if they come prior to my date I am screwed. They can't stop loss more that 90 days prior to the suspected ship date...........I will be in shock if I get the call. I have been in 6 years, did my time, please just let me be a civilian. The catch to all of this, my husband is in my unit. Round 2 deployment here we come............

Stop losses suck, but when you sign the papers, you have a 2 year block after you get out of possibly being used for deployment if needed. The military needs to keep it's numbers up and if they don't have them, then there is risks of drafts. It's better to use what we got than to do that in my opinion.

A stop loss isn't just involving tours, its your entire military career. If your time as a soldier is completed and a deployment keeps you from getting out OR overlaps....deployed in Jan when your ETS date is April for instance. Thats a stop loss. It's something you need to think about when becoming a soldier though.....you sign the line and hopefully you read what you sign....because it's stated in there.

It happened to my cousin. He was supposed to be coming home from Afghanistan, but instead had to go to Baghdad. Luckily, he was able to return home towards the end of May and is now home "for good" for the time being.

My hubby was stop-lossed. He stayed in almost a year past his ETS date. It sucked, but there is nothing I nor he could do. So we dealt with it. He is out of the military now and only has 9 months left on IRR. So I am counting down til we are 100% in the clear.

Exactly, your hubby signed the papers, you got through it and now it's all history. IRR is the only thing that scares me right now. If I were to extend an extra 2 years after my ETS, then IRR wouldn't affect me.

My husband has never been stop-lossed. The way I see it, more military are stop-lossed when more civilians refuse to join service. I guess it's just another way of thanking our troops.
