Pain in my side and my mini bump!

posted 21st Sep '06
I woke up this morning with a pain in the right side of my bump, and I'm worried there might be something wrong. My mother said it's just cramping or the baby is lying on a nerve, but I'm not sure. The pain is really quite intense and sharp, and I wondered if it has anything to do with my age? (I'm 16 and due in Feb)
I've noticed some women who are a little older than me have bigger bumps even though they're in the same week. Does this have anything to do with my age or is it just because everyones different?
I posted this here 'cause I had questions about wheather it was to do with my age or not, but if it needs to be moved that's okay and sorry

Hello! I'm 20 years old and am due Feb. 20... Honestly, I just barely started showing. I don't think it has anything to do with age though. I know it depends on your body type, plus I heard that if it's not your first pregnancy, you start showing a lot sooner. A woman I work with is only 8 weeks pregnant on her second child and she's showing more than I am.

hey! i'm 18/19weeks pregnant and i started showing at aboutttt 16 weeks? it kind of happened out of nowhere. my mom was pregnant when she was barely 15 and she only gained like...10 pounds during her pregnancy and had my sister, who was tiny but healthy. the doctor said it was because she was still growing, and was small.
so i think if your younger, you generally are smaller. but hey, everyones different!!! hope all is well!

I have two friends who are both 18 and around 6 months pregnant with thier first children and one of them is quite big but the other just started showing about a month ago and still isn't very big. The doctors say both babies are heathly. So I really think it is different with everyone. Like some women get stretch marks and some don't. It just depends on the type of body and skin you have.

I get pains like that every morning. There's nothing you can really do about it except try and relax a little more. And size, well, it really does depend on the person. i know I didn't start gaining any weight until I was about six months pregnant. I think the smaller you are, the less you gain.

Well I get crazy pains on my left side........I think its the position the baby is in!!......I just change position or try to massage that side!! Moing my bowels helps too...sorry for the graphics.......I guess that gives the baby more room.......I am preggo w/ my 2nd child , i'm not small and I'm not showing I can still zip up my jeans like before!! It all depends, I had a six pack before the baby now I have a 2 pack lol........

Don't worry I don't think age has anything to do with it ask your doctor....

You don't have anything to worry about hun, and no it has nothing to do with your age.. The pains you are feeling are more then likely your round ligament muscles, which CAN be sharp pains and its completely normal the fact that you aren't very big yet or showing yet really isn't anything to be worried about either unless your doctor is concerned, every woman and every pregnancy is different, I didn't actually start to "show" until I was about 25-26 wks, at 18,19,20 weeks I could still wear my regular size 3 jeans.lol. but it always seemed like everyone other woman I knew who was pregnant or had been pregnant was always WAY bigger then me, My husband was all the time saying stuff about me not even looking pregnant and asking me if there was something wrong.lol. which there is NOTHING wrong , every woman carries different and every womans body is different, so unless your doctor is concerned about your size then you have nothing to worry about and be thankful that you aren't blowing up like a bollon.lol.   .

It's good to know that everything is normal!
My partners mother is a nurse switching to midwifery, and she thinks I won't come out very far or have a very big baby because of my size. (I'm 5ft)
Worryingly, I was told at my antenatal at 19 weeks that I need growth scans to make sure the baby is growing at the normal rate. The doctor said it was because my BMI is low.
My BMI has been seriously flipping around lately. It's only just matched the last self test I did and come to about 18. That means I must of lost weight ALOT before I got pregnant, because I've definately put weight on now.

Just as a side thing that's been bothering me; I've been feeling twinges "down below" and sometimes getting knocked "down there" when baby kicks forwards. It's been happening tonight for example, when I squatted down on the floor to read a book 'cause I felt faint standing up. Is this normal?

AraOfDefiance..

to your last post, yes what you desribed is normal its about time for you to start feeling little things like that, and about feeling dizy/light headed that is completely normal as well, to help that try not to stand up to fast or bend over and come back up fast, its best to move slow when it comes to things like that so you don't fall over.lol. Later in your pregnancy you will probably start to notice dizzyness more often even when you aren't doing anything, sometimes when I'm just setting on the bed I will feel dizzy for no reason and just feel like im going to fall over.lol. I didn't have this problem until I hit about week 30-31 I did however have dizzyness earlier in my pregnancy but it was more so when I would do to much or stand/get up to fast Etc..

I really wouldn't worry about your baby coming to early or it being to small, unless you get bad news on your u/s, I went through the same thing when I was 28 weeks pregnant I had to have an extra u/s done to check the growth of our baby b/c my stomach was measuring 5 weeks under what I was supposed to be, I was only measuring big enough to be 23 weeks and I was 28 weeks 3 days, We had the u/s and everything was fine she was growing normally and she was in the normal size range for a 28-29 week fetus and she was developing just fine so there was nothing wrong with her, basically the reason due to me measuring smaller is just b/c of my body size and the way I'm built...

and thats really great that you have someone who is close to you going into midwifery, My mother is also a former midwife/birthing coach... and I hope to be one in the future, right now I do pretty much prenatal teaching and human development teaching mostly to teen mommies and mommies to be who don't know what to expect during pregnancy and who worry over everything.lol.and need information on things that most of them have no clue about.lol.   if there is one thing I am EXTREMELY thankful for it would be my mother and having someone close to me who is in that department and knows what they are talking about it can really come in handy.
