Probably a girl? (not helpful u/s tech)

posted 14th Jul
So I just went in for the big u/s and I asked if we could find out the sex. As she is looking around she goes - "It's probably a girl." So I asked her how sure she felt and she says "Well I think it looks like a girl." And that is it.

Also in the conversation she talked about how she doesn't do u/s for babies very often, most of her patients sleep through the whole thing.

So I guess I just wanted to 1) Vent. 2) Ask what you guys think? As in should I go on thinking it was girl?

I plan on complaining at my next doctor's appointment next week - but I don't know if that will help me at all.

I would complain and I wouldn't go with her idea of its a girl! Just because like she said she doesn't do it very often so who knows if she even knows what she is taking about!

She doesnt do ultrasounds on babies that often? I'd ask for somebody who actually knows what they are doing..

You should talk to your doctor and ask him whens your next u/s appointment . If you want to know sooner , you could always schedule a 3d/4d sonogram .

I would request another with a different tech. I had a tech like that with my last pregnancy..it was frustrating, but sometimes you have to deal with it. Good luck, and hopefully it's a girl?=)

I am always one to complain so i know that if this had happened to me i would have vented to her!!! lol I mean she has no business telling you what she thinks you are having if she is not positive and if she doesn't do u/s very often then she should not be in charge of doing yours. It is so much more difficult for them to say it is a girl then a boy so i would wait til next week and have someone else take a look!

Tell your doctor that you were uncomfortable with her experience, if she couldn't even tell you the gender.... That's pretty basic, compared to looking at the organs, which is the real reason they do that ultrasound. The doctor doesn't care about the gender, he/she only cares about thehealth anddevelopment.so don't focus on that, focus on the organ aspect, and you may get your way.

do you hae a pic we can see to see if we can tell? we had 3 u/s say maybe a girl but they werent sure, so we waited for girl stuff until the 3d u.s when we found out for sure it was a girl at 32 weeks.

Nope she didn't give me a picture of that area.

This is supposed to be my only ultrasound, so depending on what my doctor says I may look into the 3d/4d.

The tech was just so anti-climatic too. Like "This is the arm bone. Sigh." It's just sad when you are all excited to be looking at your baby you know?

Why does she have no business telling her... the OP asked and the us tech answered her question. Ultrasounds are never 100% anyways!

theres no point in complaining because ultrasounds are to see how the baby is doing not to see the sex... that is just a bonus

My us tech was the same way. I was very dissapointed at my 20 week one because she seemed so bored. And just didn't really care and didn't explain to me what anything was. I got another one last week though because I was measuring small and luckly got a diff tech and she was soooo much more plesant lol.
