HELP! Opinions please!!!

Hi Ladies! I have 2 daughter so of course I already have names but I have been stressing about how I spelled my youngest daughters name. Her name is Adeline and I pronounce it Ade-lyn, not Ade-LINE ( like as in straight line). Well, my Mom has been giving me a hard time saying that I shouldn't have spelled it like I did and now I'm feeling bad like her whole name is wrong. Is it really that crazy that I spelled it Adeline but it is said more like Adelyn? When I first saw the name I pronounced it with the lyn and I never had really though about it until a little further into my pregnancy but I just liked the more tradional spelling. Anyway, am I nuts? Please, honest opinions.

it's fine, your mom is being dorky
Spelling ti with a y would have been more obvious, but whaever.
People are going to hear you calling her by name and they'll know how to pronounce it... not worth stressing over

That's what I kind of though too, that with the "y" it was more obvious but that the spelling I prefered was still correct...thank you!

I dont think it should matter how you spell it! Its how you wanted it spelled not any one else! I thin its cute i like it! and if you like it, dont let what others say {{even if its your own mom}}tell you its bad! Its different and thats what I like! when i was about 15 i always wanted to name my lil girl Makaila lashea istead of makayla lachey! there isnt anything wrong with the way you spelled it!

I think that you shouldn't let other people-including your mom-get you down about how you deal with your kids. It's a great name. No matter HOW you spell it. Sure, ya might have to correct people like...ALL the time, but...it's the name YOU chose and you should be proud of it. Screw them to whoever wants to criticize you for it.
I feel ya though. My son's name is Dylan Christopher-Jay Oltarzewski. My parents thought I was making my son suffer by having such a long name (there's only 8 letters in the alphabet that's not in his name-lol), but...it's what makes my kid unique-so screw em! LOL My kid likes his name and that's all that matters ;)
Good luck to ya, Mama!

I was the same with Kieran. We named him after my cousins, Kyle and Ryan and pronounce it like Tie-Ran but with a K. Everyone gives me a hard time, and says I should have spelt it Kyran, but I hated how that looked. The way I look at it, people are going to say it wrong anyway - the english language is to complex and people pronounce everything differently - so what the heck, I'm going to do it how I like it

I think it is fine!! Most people will end up calling her addie anyways. People will finda way to mis-pronounce anything, so don't over analyze it too much!

Pft, no. Don't worry about it. Some people will pronounce it wrong, some people will pronounce it right.
Everyone tells me that spelling my son's name Brenden throws them for a loop because they're used to seeing Brendon or Brendan. I spelled it just like it sounds!
Now, my son's middle name will probably confuse people. lol It's spelled Dowlin after my mother's uncle. But it's pronounced D-allen. Just Allen with a D.
Don't worry. It all comes with having a name. Everyone has something to say about them.

i get people mis-pronoucing my name all the time.. its Madelaine
Mad E Lane but i get Mad Lyn, Mad Line and sometimes even Mag Lyn
thats why i shorten it to Madii b/cus it drives me crazy correcting people all the time.

Thank you everyone. It is true, people can't pronounce anything so it wouldn't really matter.
My oldest is Alexa and she gets called Alexis all the time. It doesn't bother me at all, I guess with Addie I just worried that I was really wrong!

I know girls named madeline that are pronounced madelyn...it doesn't matter how you spelled it, it will be pronounced however you choose, it's up to no one but yourself. Heck you could have spelled it T-a-l-l-u-l-a-h and pronounced it Addelyn for all I care
LOL okay, maybe not that extreme, but it's however you desire to spell and pronounce it that counts!

You really can't win! If your name was Lilian and you went by your full name they'd be calling you Lily!
