Is this how we should be treated?

Last nighta member of my PTposted a link to a thread harassing a teen mom. Because this is a trend we have noticed on BG I felt it should be brought to Mara's attention. (Mara is the site adminastrator who started it all)

I am very upset at her response.

What I sent to her:
A few of us have noticed an alarming trend lately on BG. A real teen will post a question and get harassed right off the bat. I understand when it is a troll, but these have been geniune teen mothers asking a question just like any of us would.

I hate to see it come to this, but the time has come for moderators on BG. A handfull of members who are on frequently and "police" the forum. If something like this happens the moderators could be PM'd (or even better have a "report to moderator" button) and the offenders could be delt with. I know we can "flag as abussive", but once something enters the Drama Corner, we can not do a thing and the teen is still being harassed.

I know you most likely get a lot of PM's and I wish I did not have the need to bring this to your attention, but it is really starting to bother a lot of us.

I'm afraid moderators would not have any ability to change the way things are b/c we do not ban people for being rude/mean/cruel ... we give each person the power to ban people from your baby gaga experience by pushing the ignore button and using the block option on your inbox.

moderators have never been able to ban members... all they did was move topics to TDC and lock them if there was a request from the OP. the OP can still request to have a topic locked and it will be.

ither way, the alarming trend you're seeing is simply due to the fact that there are a LOT of people on this site compared to how it used to be.

the actual ratio of drama people/TDC posts is lower than when there were mods. we're currently working on tools that will give even more moderation powers to each individual on the site.

I see what Mara has to say. It is impossible to keep the idiots away. I do feel bad for a few of those girls that do need help and no matter what get bashed. But some of them bring it on themselfs a lot!

It is a nasty double edged sword!

The OP can have the posting blocked/frozen whatever and stop the harassing comments... you can't stop people from having their opinions, or being bitchy.
I think ti would be nice to see everyone actually getting being nice and helpful, but thats not the nature of people unfortunately.

I feel it's a blanket response and doesn't address the problem. I've NEVER been a part of a board that DOESN'T have a warning system and that allows harrassment of it's members by other members. If you don't like someone, WHY follow them around and post shit on their threads. If you think they're a troll FINE! maybe post ONE thing about it and move on. Or block them. But to have a bunch of people openly harrassing other members just because they don't like them disgusts me and makes me sad that these "women" are supposed to be the examples for their children when they are acting like middle schoolers.

i really don't see what you were expecting her to do. nothing can keep idiots away from a public forum. for those who don't like it go to cafemom.com where you can just join groups. this ssame type of post has been put up several times and its still not going to change. agian its a public forum and most of those girl set themselves up for it.

The problemis there are no mods. The mods would do the work for Mara, and it's not like they would cost anything.

Compared to other boards I am on this one is extremely lightly moderated!
More than likely things wont change drastically, so if you can't get used to the way things work then it might be tough for you.

I agree. I think there should be some sort of moderation, especially on a site with so many members

I guess I just don't see why people need to act like children and harrass others. It really does make me sick and angry. And it's not a TON of people...just certain posters that ruin the experience for everyone else.

My feelings are this:

I hate that a teen mother can't come on BG and post an honest question and not feel harrassed. I think that is sad ..and cruel. But there are cruel people out there and no matter what your post is, you are going to have people that disagree with you ... some of us post our disagreements tastefully, others not so much. I know I have disagreed with posted responses, but I pick and choose my battles. I didn't know there was an ignore button. I think a moderator would be a good thing, but again, Mara's site .. Mara's rules. I hope the teen was able to look past the person that upset her and was able to focus on those who truly had her best interest at heart.
