tatoo while breast feeding?

Does anyone know if you can get a tatoo while breastfeeding? I want to get my son's name on my foot and i was wondering if it was ok to do while i am nursing him.. I tried looking on the internet but i couldnt really find anything, Thanks!!

Tattoos during Breastfeeding
A pre-existing healed tattoo will have no effect on breastfeeding. Because breast size changes dramatically during pregnancy and breastfeeding, a complex tattoo may be stretched.

Tattoos on the breast are not recommended during lactation.

You risk contracting a blood borne disease or infection in body decoration procedure that involves breaking the skin if the needles used are not properly sterilised or are contaminated in some way. Should the underlying tissue become infected, there is a slight risk that it could alter your milk in clarity and amount.

While pre-existing tattoos and piercings do not generally present problems during breastfeeding or pregnancy, it is advisable not to get new ones until after the baby is born and weaned from the breast. For more specific information, be sure to talk to your health care provider to make the most informed choice for you.

LOL i live in a small ass town and i went to my artist who did my first tat, and he's a nice guy, and I had him look at it and I was like,"I need a touch up." he goes,"yeah you do...come back when you're not pregnant anymore!!!" lol.

if you're paranoid about infection, ask to watch them clean the needle, or ask to watch them open the sterilized package........if you have a hard core body that heals fast and you don't traumatize easily...knock yourself out...haha.

I'm getting my daughter's footprints tattooed along with her name once she's born...not sure where they're going yet...

Watch them clean the needle?! There shouldn't be any cleaning necessary, because needles are not reusable. Ask to see their autoclave data sheets. If they're not up to date, go somewhere else!

Also, check to see if they're accedited. I'm not sure who they should be approved by in the US, but check their door for official looking stickers, or their wall for a framed certificate.

Yeah you shouldnt be watching them clean the needle . . you should be watching them open a brand new one . . .



The only thing you should really have to worry about would be infection . . . but you should be ok to get a tattoo while breast feeding. Especially since its a small one and its no where near your breasts.
