i have a question not sure if you can answer?

a friend of mine that i havent talked to in a couple year wrote me today. she is pregnant also. Well she started asking me about my u/s and if there was a white spot on the black area were the babies heart beat is.. i remember there being one on mine but they told me it was one the babies arteries. her doc told her that it may be something do to downs. anybody else had this on theres if so what did the doctor say it was? any help would be greatly appreciated.

they can't tell if the baby has down syndrome based on the look of the heart.
They would have to do a blood test or an amniocentises (sp)

thats what i was thought.. i told her to get a second opinion

If they could tell my an u/s they wouldn't ask if you want the downs test done at 16 weeks or whatever it is!

I would tell your friend to get a different doctor~!

im not stressed im just worried for her i know what they told me. and i believe that. i just dont see why they would tell her that it could be downs when they cant test like that.. and when they did the test her results was 1 to 5000. but then the doctor proceded to tell her with that spot being there it is 1 to 2000

They detected a small white spot (calcium)on my son's heart (the u/s was done at the hospital) and the dr. there said it's completely normal .. babies are born with it all the time. My OB said it could be a sign of Down's.. but the dr. at the hospital said nothing about that. It all depends on who you talk to.

Yes, it's a calcium deposit on the heart. My daughter has it too. It "can" be an indicator for Downs but they cant tell you for sure without an amniocentesis done because normal, healthy babies are born with calcium deposits on their hearts as well. If she went and got a Level 2 ultrasound and they couldn't find any other markers besides the calcium deposit then most likely her baby is fine. It's when the baby has the calcium deposit and other anomalies as well is when there's a higher risk. But my perinatal specialist told me that the calcium deposit can disappear by itself before birth and that even if she is born with it it wont cause any heart or health problems later on in life.
