yup. he wont cry forever, and most babies wont go longer than 10-15 minutes even though it seems like hours. it tires them out...and youll get sleep.

Start by just letting him nap alone and then try it at night... Destiny slept in bed with me and my hubby until she was almost 1... then she went into a playpin next to my bed and when we brought Jamilyn home she moved into her own room. Now Jamilyn sleeps on her own for the most part.

My doctor told me to let her cry (she was a little older though) and only get her if she cried for a long time (over 45 min.) I could never do it though...

That is why I never did it... I always thought it was cruel!!! When they are that young they need to be attended to so they feel secure and loved... it helps build self esteem for later in life...

Both of my kids ended up in my bed and eventually left my bed when they were ready. It will not hurt if you just let him cry but you need to avoid your bed all together even during naps. The biggest fear of babies sleeping with the parents is SIDS other than this big issue, there is nothing wrong with kids sleeping with their parents. What I found very helpful was using a travel play pen (mimi play pen) placing it along side my bed and also using a snuggle bed that keeps them from moving around. It forms to their body. Hope this helps.

I dont think you should let a baby that young cry it out, but thats just my opinion. Have you tried giving him a bath & massage right before bed?... that always knocks out my son... i could lay him down anywhere & he wouldn't know the difference.

Well, a couple more months & you can start him on rice cereal. That helps them sleep!

Not quite sure why anyone in this thread is telling you to let him cry it out... CIO is not recommended until after 6 months.

Honestly, I'm all for cosleeping, he'll probably sleep longer if he's in bed with you, because that way when they wake up, they'll see that you're there, and put themselves to sleep.

Yep, I actually read a great article on the benefits (as well as risks) of cosleeping just yesterday - apparently great for self-esteem and general wellbeing, but not a good idea if you like to smoke in bed... Hey, if YOU sleep better and HE sleeps better, it sounds like a win-win situation to me! The only disadvantages I've found after 2 months of cosleeping is (a) my husband has started sleeping in the "baby room" (he sleeps so heavily that he's terrified of crushing her), and (b) I think I prefer my DD as a bed-mate now...

And I agree on the CIO reservations - at this age they cry to communicate, so if the baby's crying, the baby ain't content, and is doing his/her darnedest to let you know what's wrong.
