travel stroller

posted 25th Dec '05
I need a travel stroller and am looking for advice. This will be used to airline travel and minimal use at destination (not a trip to Disney). So the main use will be the airport and light use at destination.

I currently have a Milano XL that I love, but don't want it to get beat up traveling. I'm having a hard time biting the bullet and just buying an inexpensive umbrella stroller and giving up the comfort of my Milano. So I guess I don't want a low end stroller, but don't want to spend a fortune either since it will likely get beat up. I'm into the 'look' of my strollers too if that influences your suggestions at all.

TIA

Get yourself a lightweight umbrella stroller that you can check at the gate and you should be good to go. Check out this link: travel strollers and any of the top three I'd recommend as excellent "in-between" price range stroller.

Actually, both the Tuscany, which I've reviewed, as well as the new Chicco C5 are great value-for-performance umbrella strollers. The pricier Maclaren Triumph and Inglesina Twin Swift are higher end strollers and probably a wee bit more durable, but if you're only going to be using it for a small amount of time, the Tuscany will likely be more than up for the job.

Let me know if you have any further questions. Good luck with you travels!

Thank you Mara! At first I was thinking the Chicco. But I love love love the Inglesina strollers. Unfortuantely we don't have a retailer here. I think I saw that the Swift (and I believe the Tuscanny) do not allow a full recline. Have you seen the new Inglesina Trip? I believe this one has a full recline, but definitely more pricely ($179 as opposed to the $100 Swift). My son is only 4 months, so the full recline would be nice, but probably only neccessary for the next few months.

If you have any info on the Inglesina's I appreciate any help you can give me. I have 2 trips in January and am rushing to get something before the first one in another week.

The Inglesina Trip is so new it's not even in stores yet (except online apparently). It looks verrry similar to the Swift, but weighs two pounds more (15 vs. 13 lbs) and has a cupholder, new ergonomic handles, bigger better wheels, and generally looks to be a step above the Swift in terms of overall quality and durability (hence, the price difference). The Recline is the same as the Swift and so is the under seat basket. It has a new little pocket on the canopy for a convenient place to store keys and your phone.

Officially, I'd say the jury is still pretty much out on whether it's a great stroller-- but I'm wagering that it's an improvement on the Swift design, and likely to be a pretty great 15 lb stroller. Unfortunately, the truth about the Trip only comes out when we get some consumer reports coming in. It also looks like they're selling it for a LOT more (I actually have been seeing $229 at some stores!).

Cute stroller though: there are some moms getting very excited about the pink model (which I find a bit too girly for my tastes). You can check out some of the fun touches at this link: Inglesina Trip.

It looks like a slightly risky investment at this point, because it really hasn't hit the streets yet (in terms of people reporting breakdowns and added nuisance factors that might pop up in the design), but like I already said, an improvement on the Swift can't be all bad!

Hope this helps a bit, although I'm not sure I've made it any easier to decide. One thing's for sure, if you buy the Trip you're going to want to do it online because it doesn't hit the off-line store shelves before the beginning of January.

The bottom line is how much you're willing to invest in a second stroller--which if wonderful enough, could quickly become your new favorite (and run the risk of making you a stroller addict   ). If you buy the Trip, I can't promise love at first sight or whatever, but if you have the means to take the risk, my intuition is that you probably won't be disappointed. On the other hand, the Swift is a fine stroller at a much nicer price range.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions.

How far back does the Trip go? It's not a full recline, right?

I have the peg perego p3 2006 model it is wonderful it fully reclines and comes with a larger shopping storage bin and cup holder. It is a stroller your child can grow with.I believe you will be able to get the 2005 models cheaper than the new 2006 models. There is also a toodler step for an older child to stand on or you could use it in the future. Also the handle are adjustable. And there are many beautiful colors.
