Natural Induction... Accupressure. Have you tried?

posted 11th Jul
So, I'm trying to find natural ways to induce myself. I'm almost 38 weeks, I saw my doctor yesterday and she said to look into accupressure, I'm stuck at being 4 cm dilated and 60% effaced. We are just waiting. She is very healthy and ready to come out though. I'm just extremely uncomfortable. I am very short and she is getting far too large for my little torso.

I wanted to do it naturally and not get my membranes stripped or induced medically.

I researched Accupressure and this is what I found, I was wondering if it is BS or if it is actually worth trying...

Step 1 Push on the hoku spot which can be found on the top of your hand. It is located in the webbing between your forefinger and your thumb. Massage this area at an angle to stimulate contractions. It may feel slightly tender in this area. This affects the large intestine which surrounds a portion of the uterus.

Step 2 Rub the area called spleen 6 for one minute. To find this area, place four fingers above your ankle bone on the inside of your ankle. Applying pressure to this point helps ripen the cervix and strengthen weak contractions.

Step 3 Find the bladder 32 spot by tracing one finger width above the buttocks crease. You should feel a small indentation at this point. Massage this point for one minute.

Step 4 Apply pressure to BL60 to help the baby descend toward the pelvis. You can find this spot between your ankle bone and Achilles tendon.

Step 5 Press and rub these spots in a circular motion. It should feel sore or tender but not painful. Remove pressure when you feel a contraction. Continue with the acupressure after the contraction has subsided.

Step 6 Repeat applying pressure to these spots. You can repeat up to six cycles per time. Apply less pressure if it becomes painful.

Step 7 Use these same techniques in the labor room. They can help ease your labor pains

*REMEMBER, THIS IS ONLY SAFE TO TRY AT FULL TERM WHICH IS AT LEAST 37 WEEKS*

I'm curious if this worked for anyone.

Not sure about all of that, but good luck to you! I'm only 25 weeks and miserable. I couldn't imagine being 38.

If her doctor told her to look into it, it's probably an ok time to start it.

I had planned to get a professional accupressure session...when I went in she talked me into acupuncture instead (needles). I was already having some contractions. To make a long story short, I had the baby that night.

i tried to do this myself and I didn't get the spot right. I'd look up in the phone book and find an accupressurist to do it. I've hear good statistics about it working. I'm 5 feet tall, i know how uncomfortable you are. I hope she comes out soon. My kids were 5 and 10 days late. I was horribly misserable by then. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Thanks Ladies! Ya, I'm gonna try! I'm really into natural things. I don't think its bad to naturally induce yourself if its natural and you are full term, so I am being patient damnit, I've been knocked up for 38 weeks!! = )

I'm gonna attempt to try it myself but I'm not sure if I'll doit right but it can't hurt to try. Maybe my chiropractor can help a bit too! = )

Hey thanks!! We love her name too! It just popped into my head one day and when we found out it was a girl, we were stuck on it!! Bell is her middle name and it was my great grandmothers maiden name and I was uper close to her. I had so much fun in her nursery, it just kind of all came together perfectly!

awwww Madelyn Bell... sooo pretty. We had an old friend steal it from us about 2 years ago. We were visiting home and they were pregnant and asked what we would name our son's sibling. We told them Madelyn for a girl and Max for a boy. well, ofcouse they had a girl and so hubby refused to let me use Madelyn even tho we haven't spoken to them since the baby was born

I wanted Madelyn Kailene(K-eye-lene) or Madelyn Sage. Igot to keep the Sage

I just recently finished school for Massage Therapy and I just want you to know that Accupressure really does work! I had an instructor who does that for her clients that are full term and want to induce naturally. She said it works great and the clients usually go into labor within a few days! Im also trying the accupressure points. The best ones to do are the webbing between your finger and thumb and the ones around the ankle and achilles tendon. Good luck!! I hope it works well for you!
