Do all hospitals do it?

posted 11th Jul
I was curious about the whole labor thing works in water. Do all hospitals and Insurance plans cover it? I would think it would not make a difference but I get the medical card and was wondering... exploring the options. Thanks ladies!

I really wanted a water birth
My hospital doesnt offer it
And I know Passport doesnt cover it
Usually insurance only covers the neccesities
You may wanna check with them

Most hospitals do not do water births. I believe you need to go to a midwife who uses a birthing center. That's where they let you labor in water, on a regular bed, and many other ways to promote natural child birth. You may want to look into midwives or ask you doc what your options are. As far as covering the cost, I think that's a personal opinion of your insurance. You'd have to contact your insurance with that info. Sorry I'm not much help

it seems like that would be a 'cheaper' way of giving birth.....since your basically just in a tub? i wanted to go all natural with my first, but shit, as soon as the pitocin kicked in and i was feeling it, all that shit flew out the window!

Mine doesn't offer them (I really wanted one with my first) but there is an inflatable tub (kinda looks like a kiddie pool) that you could use if your hospital will let you.

I didn't know about this until after I had my daughter, but it wouldn't hurt to look into....

Varies by hospital, call yours they will be happy to let you know. Better yet, take a tour of the L&D.

I gave birth at a HUGEEEE hospital... and they didn't have the birthing tubs available. You can't have meds if you have a water birth, so it might be better just to look into a birthing center.
