HELP...spoiled baby

posted 11th Jul
My son is 3 mos old and he will not EVER let me put him down, I have always held him alot, but when I've put him down in the past to do things around the house he's fine for a little while in his bouncer or floor gym. But now within about the last 2 weeks or so, if I try to put him down for a minute he cries...not just fusses but really cries!! Could he be spoiled if not what could be going on...anyone with similar experiences?!? Please help!

I don't think he'd be spoiled YET...he's only 3 months. He could be teething...and just wants his mommy cuz mommy makes him feel better. Have you tried a baby einstien dvd? those are amazing for the few minutes you need to get a few things done! You could also try a new toy...even a pot lid...something to keep his mind off not being held.

Read "The Happiest Baby on the Block" by Dr. Harvey Karp. It is really helpful, especially on situations like this. It might just be a phase he is going through.

He's used to things a certain way and lots of babies don't like change. He'll get used to it. I'd break him now intead of a year down the road. My sister is going through that right now with her 18 month old.

my daughter does that sometimes too and if its something that really needs to be done i'll just let her cry for 5 or 10 minutes. as long as shes been feed and changed and burped i know she's fine.

Aidan was like that at a very young age... but waaay worse... not only would he scream so hard he'd make himself throw up (just while I was brushing my teeth!!!) but you couldn't sit while holding him, you had to walk, rock him in a figure 8 pattern while patting his back and shooshing... but not a high shooshing a deep loud shooshing... he's not THAT bad now but he is still incredibly spoiled and VERY stubborn and demanding. People are actually amazed at how he acts, most have never seen a baby throw such a fit over such small things... I'm dreading the terrible twos !!!!

It's okay to let them cry for a few minutes. If you know that nothing is wrong and you have things to do, let him cry. I have to do that sometimes.

haha he just likes be held. but seriously...that kind of habit should be broken sooner rather than later. being 3 months and crying about it is totally different than having a 12-18 month old throwing a temper tantrum :p

I really hate to let him cry though because I think "what if I think he's ok but something really is wrong with him" and what is an appropriate amount of time to let him cry, I really don't want him to feel abandoned and have issues later in life from this making a subconscious impression!

can you bring him in the room with you...so that he can see you are not leaving? and you can also still see that he is okay.

maybe he doesn't wanna be in his bouncer? try putting him on the floor ontop of a blanket with some toys with you in the same room?

I've let my son cry as long as it takes me to clean bottles. Never for over 10 mins. I feel bad, but sometimes you just can't do everything with a baby on your hip. I have learned that if I put him with a toy that plays music he won't cry. But sometimes babies just need to be close to mom.

I agree, Preston gets bored with the same toy.
