Am I Nuts?

posted 11th Jul
Since I have made the decision to do my childbirth naturally, all I have been hearing is how "crazy" or "Insane"I am. Its becoming really discouraging and fustrating. All I say back to them is that its my decision, and if women a thousand years ago could do it, then why can't I? I am well aware that its painful as well...Its not meant to be pleasant!!
Has anyone else gone Au Natural when it came tolabour and delivery, or planning on it? It would begreat ifI heard some positive stories, instead of the horror ones.

i've never done it naturally! If you can do it I say go for it. I have a very low pain tolerance so I wouldn't dream of it. If someone can handle it they are much much stronger than me. Either way, with meds or not, you're gonna have a baby! Good luck hun.

I'm planning on doing mine naturally, but if the circumstance arises that i need to get a c-section then i'll go that way. I don't think you can have an actually plan because of the unexpected.

People have been giving me a hard time about doing it my way, they say to go for a c-section just because its not as painful and its a lot easier. My mother had natural births for me and my brother and she swears by it. I was there for my brothers birth and the screaming she went through haha makes me wonder.

I had meds but I've heard from a lot of women that were planing on meds and got to the hosp too late and had to go natural and our glad they did now. I did a poll on this when I was decided what I wanted to do with my first and hardly any of the women who went natural said they regretted it. The vast majority said they were really happy with it. Good luck! You're a strong women!

I didnt have mine without meds, but when I hear of women that do, i say "GOOD FOR YOU!!!!" it takes a certain kind of woman to go through all that. And your right--if women back then did it with no meds, we can too...i'm just too much of a wuss...lol...and I had to have a c-section anyway...

By "natural" do you mean without ANY intervention (i.e. no gas, no pain-control)? I think it's admirable to go in with that assumption and know plenty of cases where it's been done ... but I've never tried it myself. I've had the non-epidural birth experience and personally I prefer the epidural (I've been induced with all of mine so the labour progresses differently than "natural" too).

I would just say, "go in with an open mind". Have your expected birth plan, but don't feel like a failure if you find you can't stick to it. (I must admit that with my first, I felt like I'd done "a bad job" of birthing him... I can't even tell you why at this time. I didn't have an epidural, but I was SO miserable because it was a long haul -- almost 20 hours. I felt much better after my second. And I had an epidural with him -shrug-).

Yeah, I am going to try it without any intervention. I am still going to keep an open mind though. If something goes wrong and i need to get an epi then I will, or I am to tired and need to rest before I need to push then maybe... But I will certinally try everything i can to relieve it naturally before I get some "help"
