The need for name brands.

posted 10th Jul
I've got to know, why?

In high school - I realized it was because you wanted to fit in. To have the best of the best.

Now, I figure the majority of this website is either pregnant or already has a child (or children). Yet, I've seen posts about Gucci diaper bags (or coach or something) and that $100 pair of shoes that you just couldn't live without.

Why?

I'm happy wearing my husband's old comfy shirts and sweats around the house. I do have nicer clothes if I'm going anywhere, but since I'm a SAHM at the moment, I don't feel the need to make my 3 year old and 8 week old son think I'm in with the hip crowd. My shoes cost $40 and I thought that was expensive. They were on the sale rack. They are also 3 years old.

I've always been the comfort over look type of person.

I've never understood the need for name brand either. A Gucci purse holds my crap just as well as the $4 dollar clearance purse I got at Target.....just sayin'....

Technically all things have a brand name....lol
But Im like you, there is no need for expensive things if they work. I buy cheap stuff and always do. I also love coupons.

I stopped caring about labels when I was around 11, heh.

I'm only a brand type person when it comes to certain things. But I understand where your coming from... I have a sister like that. But I say if they can afford it, why not?

What's silly I think is when someone would save up 3 months pay for a purse with bills they have to pay.

In fact, I'd say I've gone so far as to become anti-label at this point. I would not wear certain brands even if you paid me to, lol.

It's awful. I hope I don't have to deal with name brands when my kids are older....I never wore them in high school. I'm perfectly happy with hand-me-downs, not only for my kids, but myself as well. Money can only stretch so far....

Coach shoes for 150 bucks... It's rediculous! I'm happy at payless. My kids will be too.
I have a little brother I helped raise I know how fast kids go through shoes...

I would LOVE to hear from some women who feel the need/want to buy this stuff , though.

I pretty much just buy what I like, no matter if it's from the Gap or Fred's. I just like to find good deals. I just about buy everything on clearance. I think I have nice things. I don't buy designer stuff though. That is pointless to me. It is way too expensive for what you get.

I agree with you. I guess some people just never grow out of it. My sister and I don't agree with this issue. She believes if it's "name" brand it's better quality. So not true. I do agree with the fact that with some things you get what you pay for, but not everything. I can spend $28 on a shirt for one of my kids or $5 on a shirt for one of my kids and they're both going to be worn and last for the same ammount of time! And they're just as cute!

I actually find the more expensive clothes more comfortable. In shirts, I'll find the material softer and for jeans, I feel they fit me better all the way around.

I dont understand the parents that actually pay for their children to be in name brand. Until my kids get jobs to pay for it themselves, they're going to Walmart for their school clothes. Yep, I'm a mean mom like that.

My shoes were $12 and look pretty new... I've had them for... over a year... and wore them the entire time I was pregnant! lol.

I have never understood either... My boyfriend has a shirt he bought from JC Penny on sale for, $10 or something... His friend LOVES the shirt and is offering him $65 for it.  I don't understand the high prices thing.

It's crazy. I don't think babies really know if they are wearing a pair of $100 shoes or $12 shoes from payless. I don't think I ever really was aware of wearing name brands until I was probably 11 or 12 years old. Although, it is interesting.... I work at a daycare, and we find ourselves looking at the tags of the kids clothing a lot to see where it's from. I don't know why, ... kinda stupid I guess.....
