Quoting Zack & Zari's Mommy:“ I'm like that too. Some brands, I boycott simply because they're ridiculously priced and don;t even look all that great.”

With some things, like electronics say, a brand name is important, because you're not just getting a label, you're getting better quality.

But with items like clothes, there's no better quality, just an expensive label.

as kids we always wore name brand clothes. but then when i had to start buying things myself walmart clothes became good enough for me
i honestly feel so plain standing next to my friends now b/c i wear walmart clothes and i hate buying any piece of clothing that is more than ten bucks. i was riding in the car with my friend one day and the topic of clothes came up and she said she couldn't believe i didn't shop at the higher priced places. and i told her that for the price of her shirt i probably could have bought a few outfits. they might not be the best but i always buy on sale at walmart. i always find that the more i save from my clothes the more money i can spend on my daughter. my friends do not have children and that day my whole outfit (shoes underwear included) cost me $10 b/c i found everything on sale.

I work with someone who is in her 40's and has never had children, (she does have older teen step children), who LOVES designer clothes, purses, sunglasses, etc. She laughed when I told her I was going to Costco to see if they had any good clothes! I have NEVER been into having namebrand clothes (well not since middle-school). Such a big fat waste of money! Her justification is feeling like she "deserves" it because she works so hard. Me? I'd rather have cheaper clothes, work less hours and spend more time at home with family!

i do own alot of brand name purses, shoes, clothing, and even a band name diaper bag...
i dont tend to usually shop by labels but rather more by the style, cut, and fit of the garment or whatever it may be at the time..
i dont mind paying more for something if its something i like.
if you have the extra money to splurge on a shopping trip then it shouldnt be a problem..
when I go to the mall, i walk into most of the stores and just buy what I like

edit to say: when i got my first job, it wasn't unsual for me to spend up to $500 on a purse   i was young and had nothing better to do with my money.. and no, i wasnt the type of person to save my money either.

but, alot has changed since then, i dont go out looking for "that specific brand" it's more of just stumbling onto them and if i like it and have money for it, then i'll buy it

i like brand names & i like no names... i do alot of work in an urban reatailer so i get discounts on stuff, i tend to shop there more...i recently bought an ed hardy shirt at discount which i was in love with and found similar shirts at an outlet and got 5 for the same price!!!i do work in an industry where name brand conquer, and i have to promote that, so i tend to wear some that is name brand, but as far as quality of name brand clothes...there is no difference... AT ALL... doing inventory at a friend clothing store has mmade me realise... we got in 5 apple bottom shirts that were absolutly beautiful, and went to put them on the floor and the buckles started falling off...or the stitching was off...

i also do my name brand cloth for my kids, but thats cuz i like it, not that they need it or need to look cool n school... they have Nikes, that are not play shoes, and cannot run around in the mud with...as well as the name brand clothes...they do not wear outside to play...theirs closets arent overflowing with name brands... i feel as tho im teaching them to cherish the finer things they have and to understand that its a priledge to have nice things and u need to work for it...but that goes for toys and such as well... and i do tend to buy their name brand stuff at outlets

all said and done... i love walmart, outlets...anything cheap, cheap cheap!!!!!

and i do all my groceries at food basics (for all canadians) and love loblaws reduced 50% off foods!!!

I agree with the electronics for sure. My husband is really big on that and will always try and make sure he gets the best quality in electronics and doesn't mind spending good money for them. With that, it's like the saying goes - You get what you pay for.

As far as clothing items, I have to disagree slightly. For instance, I noticed that with shoes for my 8 year old, I do have to buy the more expensive shoes. I have seen the difference. For one, he's a boy so is very hard on shoes, and two, he has flat feet so he has to have decent shoes. I have tried buying the cheaper shoes from Payless, i.e. Spider-Man, Transformers....those little cute shoes they make for boys, but he goes through them way faster than he does his Nikes. So I will usually buy him Nikes because even though they are more expensive, they do last longer so I figure in the long run, since I am not replacing shoes every month, I am saving money.

And for me, with my jeans...Guess jean are all I wear. They fit better and last longer than any other brand of jeans I have ever had. I am built funny in my opinion. I (usually) have a tiny waistline, but have hips, and very long legs even though I am only 5'5. So any other jeans I get will fit, at first, then once washed a few times, are too short and I can;t wear them again. Guess jeans always stay the same so again, like with my son's shoes, I feel like in the long run I am saving more money buy buying the more expensive items and being able to wear them longer.
