Gaga not a supportive forum?

I see women saying that gaga is a website for support, and that we should do nothing but support each other, and that most women here seldom do so.

Well folks, it's time to consult the dictionary again:

Now, obviously definitions 1-3 are not contextually valid to this argument. Support, with regards to offering it to other women, would be a combination of 4-6.

Now, you'll notice that nowhere in the definition of support does it say that support equals being entirely positive, never being negative, never disagreeing, etc. Support means helping someone... and while there is admittedly rarely an instance where calling someone a bitch or cunt, for example, is helpful, reinforcing a negative behavior or belief is not helping, it's called enabling.

Sometimes, support requires constructive criticism, and occasionally even a good shock to get someone to open their eyes. It does not mean saying "yes, that's a good idea" or just not responding at all if someone is doing something harmful. Support doesn't mean approve of everything everyone does for the sake of harmony, it means being there for someone... even if they need a push or a proverbial slap in the face to wake them up.

So, please stop equating support with rainbow and sunshine and ponies, because that's not what support is. Support is saying what needs to be said, good or bad.

I'm sooooooooo tired of hearing that. Especially in the thread about the baby with the bloated belly. If it took all of us so-called bullies to make her take that baby to the ER, then that IS support, plain and simple.  

Not everything can be wrapped up with a big bow, just to spare someone's feelings. I'd rather people be honest with me if I'm doing something stupid, than sugar-coat things for me.
