No one told me either, but the research that I did said that it can give you alot of false positives and negitives.

So when I went in for my appointment I asked my OB and she confirmed that they do in fact give you alot of fale readings. So I declined the test.

Did your doctor say what the next step would be? Amnio?

I didnt know about the test at all, last week I saw not my doctor (in the military everybody sees you, you never seen 1 doctor) and she asked if id like that test and the cystic fibrosis one, she explained them very little and I said sure. I didnt even know what I said yes to, I havent given it not another thought until that call today....

Well wouldn't they move you to high risk? That way you stick with one dr and they can explain more to you? I'm military and extremely high risk, and was seeing the head OB here at Ft.Hood until they decided I was to high risk and sent me to a specialist with a good NICU. You should go up there and get every question answered, that just doesn't sound right for them to do that, I wouldn't think they would.

I refused both the tests for cystic fibrosis and for downs. The only thing that they would have done is freak me out, and I'd love my baby regardless. On Fort Hood, my midwife is really awesome. Since I have a little bit of medical knowledge anyways, I already knew what the tests were all about, but I talked to my midwife about it and she told me they aren't necessesary.

Just don't let them shift you around from Dr. to Dr. Make them give you some answers!

You're in my thoughts and I'm hoping things turn out alright for you.

Sweetie,
The test is called a Screen, because it tests your RISK of Downs Syndrome, Edwards syndrome and Spina Bifida. It is not a diagnosis...and it does not mean that your bean has any of the above, its means there is a risk. They may well give you a 2nd Stage ultrasound which will determine whether you will be OFFERED an Amniocentesis.....You don't have to agree to any of it ....a second stage Ultrasound is more investigative and they will look to see if there are any other significant markers to Down Syndrome Ie Heart abnormalities.....
As the other ladies have told you ....this is NOT an Definative test and has alotof FALSE Positives. Please try to calm down and not get stressed as your beany will sense Mommy is upset ...There are so many reasons why the tests are inaccurate timing of the Blood test ...best period of time is 16 -18 weeks as anything else gives false reading s....(I have no idea why this is )....As you will realise i too have been reading a whole lot into the test...I am taking the blood test but that is as far as i will take it ....No matter what my results are. I am thinking of you .........

I have never taken the test...however one of the families in our church just had a down syndrome child last year and let me tell you, that is the cutest happiest baby I have ever seen. He is doing sooo good. He has just started learning how to walk...but mostly he cruises around on his hands and feet and that sucker is fast. He really is right on par for where he should be. Try not to worry. Everything will be okay and your going to fall in love with your child whether he has the disease or not. It doesn't matter. You'll be in my prayers.

I apprecite everybodys kind words, but the "last" thing i want to be told right now is how "lovely" down syndrome kids are. No offense but every other posts says that, and I know if yall got similar results you wouldnt want to be hearing that. I want my daughter to be oerfectly healthy, and I just want prayers for that. I dont want a sick baby, Im a sick enough mama with my own asthma as is. So please just think before you write ladies. The fact is that I dont want a sick baby and Im hoping for the best in that.
Thank You.

I'm sorry I didn't mean to offend you. I didn't read through all the posts prior too. I read it afterwards that you got more results back and everything was fine. I was just trying to be encouraging.   I hope you have a safe and completely healthy baby!
