The Big "D"

Emily has had diarrhea since Sat/Sun... not sure where it is coming from. I know she is teething but I always thought that having it be caused by teething was a myth?

She's not sick or anything either.

This morning was the worst, not in terms of amount or anything, but she's starting to get diaper rash from it. She was red all over down there!

I have tried not giving her milk, but that didn't work. Tried pedilyte stuff, no go. I am not sure what else to do. I read in a book I have that unless it continues for several weeks, there is no need for concern... but that seems like a long time for atoddler to keep having diarrhea.

Try bananas that may help. But if your worried you can always call the Dr.

Has she had something new lately that perhaps didnt agree with her tummy??

My daughter has had chronic diarrhea for over a year, and today she is seeing a gastroenterologist to see what the problem is because her Pedi said its a phase some toddlers go through, but i think that is bullshit...

I hope she feels better soon!!

pedialite is just to help them stay hydrated. when gavin had his poo problems when he was sick the doc told me that i had to keep giving him the pedialite just so he stayed hydrated (i'm guessing you know this but from what i read it seemed like you may not) but has she started any new food... that could be it.

My DS got it horrible when he was teething. I just had to let it run it's course. I'd try to let him run around with no diaper on for a while during the day and that seemed to help the rash. Also, burnt flour will REALLY help clear up diaper rash. IDK why, but it worked the best for us!

Well, Sunday she had her birthday cupcake that had a TON of icing on it... not sure if that would make it worse or not?

I know, I for some reason thought if I gave her more fluids it would help it clear up, hah. She just eats normal food like we do and has never had a problem with anything in her diet thus far.

Yeah, she doesn't seem bothered by having it. No symptoms of being sick. Just the teething. I'll try that burnt flour thing though if the ointment I put on doesn't work. Thanks for the suggestion!

I cant see it affecting her this long... she may just have a little stomach bug. I agree with everyone else, give your Pedi a ring and see what they suggest!!

yeah i thought that too but then i was like wait if i drink tons of extra fluid i poo runny. so i had to ask why it wasn't clearing up.. i felt so stupid cuz my doc was like oh it wan't clear it up... but it helps them stay hydrated. i felt like a complete moron

you might put some vaseline on her bottom to keep it from being sore from the rash and it should keep the rash from getting worse, poor little thing.

Jake's ped said only to worry if they are having diahrrea diapers 10 plus times in one day to be concerned...just make sure to keep her hydrated. When he had it for a week straight, they said to switch him to soy formula (he was like 6 months old at the time I believe) because soy formula stops the diahrrea and I dunno why lol! but I bought some Soy formula and I never saw another diahrrea diaper! I just gave him soy for the next day and it was gone! I found that to be pretty stragne but it worked lol!

And when Jake was younger, he used to be soo sensitive to sugars that ever too much juice would give him diahrrea...he is still the same way actually, just not as bad. If he gets diahrrea now, I buy regular soy milk and i dunno if it has the same effect or not but i still buy it, plus avoid all sugars and it normally goes away. Or if she has some kind of virus, you'll just have to let the virus run it's course but it is probably from too much sugar! Goodluck!
