Gyno hell
posted 10th Jul
This is a slight rant, but I'm pissed. I had an appt this morning with my gyno to have my IUD checked (an appt that takes all of 5 minutes to complete). I was scheduled at 9:30 and was there at 9:20. There were only 2 people in the waiting room when I got there. Well, 9:30 came and went and at around 9:45, 5 more people walked in. They were ALL seen before me by 10:00. One of the patients was a friend of one of the nurses and the nurse walks over to her and say "they have your chart, they're just waiting for the next available room." Um hello? Was I invisible? By 10:10, Madison was getting cranky and antsy and, having bad arthritis in both knees, I couldn't keep standing and bouncing her like she wanted me to. I held off on pain meds this morning just so I could drive to the doctor (and it was the first time I couldn't get a babysitter, but plenty of women take their babies with them and Maddy would have been perfectly happy if we had been seen on time), so by this time, I was in severe pain. Finally, at 10:15 and shortly after the girl who came in 20 minutes after me was promised a room, I packed up Mads and left, glaring at everyone in the office on my way out. I was completely offended and in tears by the time I got to my car. I called my hubby and told him what happened. He called the office and spoke to the office supervisor. She insisted the patients were seeing other doctors (apparently all of which couldn't take 5 minutes to check my vag), and that my doctor had an emergency and was running late. Ok, but why couldn't someone tell me that?! She said that they're supposed to keep patients updated if a doctor is running late and write it on the board in the front of the office so you have the opportunity to reschedule. She told me that when she went downstairs, she was upset to discover that none of those actions had been taken and completely understands why I left. Then she offered me an appointment at their other office which is 4 times farther than the one I go to (5 minutes vs. 20). I told her that since I already wasted gas that I payed an arm and a leg for to keep an appointment that I wasn't seen for, I wasn't driving further to accommodate their schedule. I demanded the next possible appointment with my doctor at my office. Would anyone else seriously be pissed? I was absolutely livid...

I would have been upset at the least they should have acknowledged your presence.

That truly sucks. I hear ya, If your appt is at 930 why can't they see you at 930? I hate having to wait and not know why I am having to wait so long.

Ugh...that is what sucks about Dr. offices! One of my last prenatal exams, I had a 2:45 appt, and I didn't get seen till 4:15...I raised friggin' hell!

This is so 'A' typical of a doctors office! Tell me any other service that you're paying for, that you would put up with being treated like that!?! They act like YOU work for THEM, opposed to the other way around!!! Oh yeah... I'm Pissed for YOU!

I totally know what you mean. I love my doctor, she's awesome, but she's always behind. I live an hour away from my doctor so my son always falls asleep on the drive over. I get to the waiting room and start waiting. And waiting. And by the time she sees me, he's already waking up and cranky. The worst thing is that if she says my appointment is at 10:00, she'll see me at 11:00...ish. But if I show up a little bit late (even 5 minutes), my appointment gets pushed back even more. And I highly doubt that she has gotten to my turn while I'm not there yet. Oh well. There's such a shortage of family doctors around here that I guess they can get away with abusing our time.

I would have been so pissed. I don't think I would have been able to walk out without screaming at someone.

Id've been pissed. I go to a family practice, and all 4 ob/gyn see all the patients, you don't get just the one.Same with the general practitioners. They see ALL of the patients as availability permits. When I go in, they are alawys running late, but they go in order of arrival. So it pays to be early for your appointment, even if you know you may be waiting for quite a while. Thats just my practice.

I was trying not to scream and scare Madison and make her even more unhappy. What pissed me off the most was that I wasted gas (which we all know isn't cheap, especially premium gas) to be ignored. I made direct eye-contact with the girl behind the desk 3 times and she could see that I was getting irritated but couldn't be bothered to come tell me anything.

I had that happen once. I was wondering why everyone else who came in later than me were being seen first. I sat there for 2 or 3 hours. Luckly, 3 other pregnant women were in the same situation. It was because the midwife was running late. I hated waiting there THAT long though. I couldn't imagine doing it with a baby
