unassisted childbirth

posted 9th Jul
i dont know if anything about this has been posted before..

i just finished watching a documentary about unaided childbirth and to me it seem like a crazy idea.

one woman had never had any sort of anti-natal check up and gave birth at home with no-one but her husband.. she used a shoelace to tie off the umbilical cord!!!
she had no idea where the placenta was sitting or if her baby was breach.

have any of you other momma's ever considered this or know someone thats done it?

to me it seems like taking a risk with your babies life that is soo unnessisary.

Well... now she's more of a woman than I am, but I'm positive this happens in other countries all day, every day.

I think its horribly scary to do it alone, but at the same time figure that women did it for a LONG time without too much help, so why do we need it now? I read a poll earlier about american hospitals and how we do so much unnecessary stuff at hospitals..... She probably was a lot calmer doing it in the comfort of her home... I know I'm happy with modern medicine myself though.

It's not wrong to do that, of course..but I don't think I could get through all that without going to the doctor to find out if everything is alright.

But that's how it went back in the day.

Although people have done this for years and still do in many countries I will pass. I am very glad I was able to take advantage of the advancements in medicine that have been made.

Sounds almost like a death wish to me. Not sure for who though, mom or baby. Either way, I dont like the thought of it.

im all for mommies that go for no pain relief or home births but to have no-one with any sort of experience or medical training is madness
