I do believe you are supposed to gradually cut back so that your body dosent go into shock with all the changes, but I have never heard of a Dr. telling someone to not try and quit at all.

yeah I totally get the whole do but dont thing... some days its like man I really wish but others I think about how much money we have saved since we quit (my husband quit with me to make it easier).

Not really, quitting is actually the right choice. It depends on how addicted you are, your going through the withdrawls. My son is fine I have been smoking less and less everyday and he is overweight for his gestational age. But the warnings are for like heavy smokers, I mean if you smoke a few day its still not that good but its not like a pack a day. I think thats where all the stuff comes from. I've talked to a lot of different drs and they all say something different.

I have had 3 healthy babies and smoked during all 3 pregnancies. My DR has always told me to cut my smoking in half. Then try to cut that in half after a few weeks. Ive been doing good so far. The only thing my doctor said could happen to the baby is a lower birth weight. Other than that, no major health concerns.
When breastfeeding I heard you want to wait an hour after you smoke before you feed again. That will give the toxins more time to move through your system and your milk wont be effected as much.

Quoting Poofter.:“ I was told by my OB/GYN and Perinatal Dr., NOT TO STOP smoking. Just to cut back. I smoked 3 cigs a day IF THAT..sometimes I'd go a few weeks without a cigarette. My daughter is fine

I know women who have been told by their doctors not to quit while pregnant because the withdrawals effect the baby as well as you and can fundamentally interfere with development.

I think it depends on how much an individual was smoking and they also take into account the inherent stress of the pregnancy situation... since my hubby had been deployed soon after I found out I was pregnant (completely screwing up my quitting efforts!) the doctor I saw said that she didn't expect me to quit, just cut back.

...it also is probably going to change from physician to physician also. My advice would be to do what you are comfortable with in your situation. But as soon as you light up a cigarette with little or no consideration for the baby, you need to change what you're doing. All things in moderation.

I smoked while prego but every time I lit a cigarette I would picture my womb filling with smoke like a bar on friday night. It made me feel so bad it regulated how much I smoked pretty well.

My daughter came out blue....come to think of it, most babies do...until they are cleaned off.
and HOW do these doctors know that you having trouble breathing was directly related to your mother's smoking?
