Labor Story :
I started having contractions on Saturday about 11am and went into L and D. I was only 2 cm and contractioons were 4 minutes apart. They sent me home. At 11pm Saturday night I went into L and D again now 3 cm but contractions were 5 minutes apart. They gave me a morphine shot in the bootie to cease the pain from the contractioons (didn't work) and sent me home again. I was SO pissed! They told me to go home and rest and I'd be back for delivery in the next couple of days. Days -haha. Rest - ha. To all those that arent sure if they are having contractions ( I was always ocnfused what was what between baby moving, BH and real thing) you WILL know without a doubt what one is. For me personally, it was a horroible period cramp that was stagnant and very intense. When you can barely walk through one and cannot talk through one....thats when to head into L and D. You think they are bad at first but at 4cm, I was dying.
At 1pm on Sunday, 7/06/08 I headed back in knowing it was the real deal. They confirmed I was 4cm and 100% effaced and admitted me. Shortly after, started my IV and asked me if I wanted an epiudural. Now, I am DEATHLY afraid of needles and dang near passed out from my IV BUT the contractions hurt so bad I just did not care. "Yes please!". The anth doc came in and administered it and I was in INSTANT heaven. He said I wouldn't feel anything until push time. He was right.
I started having the pooping sensation really bad and could not control my pushing. When your body feels like pooping and you are tired from contraction pain, the "off" button retires I swear.
My dr was in the room next door delivering a baby at the same time my nurses called him in here and I actually heard him say, "I need 5 minutes, we have a cord issue." Great! I have to hold on 5 minutes and my sons head was partly out already and I couldnt control the pushing. My cervix was swollen from the pushing prematurely before I was 10cm, so I dont recommend pushing even though you cant help it. He finally came in and let me start actively pushing and told me Id need an episiotomy. I was not a happy camper. So how about he stated snipping and I quickly told him the epidural was wearing off because I felt that and he has the dr quickly come in for another "bolus" or whatever they call it ( to fill the epi back up)...he did but it felt like it did not take immediate effect, but I was in pain so who knows.
I only had to push for 30-45 minutes ( granted it was the longest 45 minutes of my life thus far) but when he came out, I tore all the way down to my rectum after he had already cut the top. So, I tore internally as well. He then said, "we have a couple options. I can try a local and hope it numbs you and do this as quickly as possible or we can knock you all the way out but yu wont be with it for awhile and will miss the first moments with your son..." so my stupid self says to just hurry and go and get it over with. BIG MISTAKE. The local didnt work ( he said most people say it doesnt work, they are correct). I felt every stitch, every tug, every pull. I ended up with almost 20 stitches so you can imagine the pain with no numbing. Id like to lie and say the joy of my son took away the focus and pain, but I'd be lying severely.
If this happens to you and you get the option....GET KNOCKED OUT, I'm telling ya.
So 2 days later and it's painful but getting better. When you pee it burns from the acid in the urine but then the joy of my son does take over.
He doesn't cry yet, he sleeps well, and eats well. I am blessed.
I wouldnt have made it 9 months w/o the advice from BG either!!!!!!
