To be honest there is nothing PROVEN that tanning hurts you or the baby while you are pregnant. (something about the UV rays dont go deep enough to even reach the baby.
I know my doctor doesnt mind if you tan outside what so ever.
But be careful! My dr. went on a cruise at 7 months preg. and she still has a tan line from it.. that was 16 months ago! lol.
Your skin is a whole lot different when you are apregnant so be careful
(i went outside for about 20 minutes when i was 23 weeks and i got BURNT BAD! ) and i never burn.. i tan!

I would skip a day between tannings...after you get a little color without turning pink, you can go every day.

Jen, if you are tanning you need to start slow and not go the full time (if you did)

Generally, when you are starting out tanning you should start out the first session at 4 minutes.

Thean increase by 2 minutes every session.

If you burn stay at that time the next time.
If you burn wait a couple days before going again.

I was told differently. Your body can get overheated and that is definitely bad for the baby.

If you burn, give yourself a rest, you'll only get worse.

I don't reccommend tanning pregnant, you can get sun poisoning really easy, and pregnant hormones can make your skin extra sensitive.

I reccommend a subtle tanning lotion over a full self tanner, no unnatural streaks, and it comes on gradually so no one will know its not a real tan.

I love the one Mary Kay makes, and I know I mention it a lot, but I am biased because I sell it. There is also a sun block, and some healing lotion when you do get burned. You can get the same thing at the store though, I think Lo'real makes one. I don't think that one moisturixes enough, but it does work. It even has a little shimmer in it that makes your skin look especially nice. It smells great too!

I didn't realize you were pregnant. I would be careful with that one...I was told by a fairly liberal ob that 10 minutes max in a tanning bed is allowed when pregnant. To be safe, I tanned outside and not in a bed while pregnant.

Oh, very good point I forgot lol. It is also not reccommended by most tanning bed manufacturers that you go every day until your skin adjusts, every other day at the most. My tanning bed says go twice the first week, and increas by one day each week. Start with a short timer, and gradually increase.

Never ever EVER wear sunblock into a tanning bed... EVER!!!! It is counter productive and will ruin the acrylic in the beds!! BIG NO NO!! You should on the other hand always wear a indoor tanning lotion purchased from the salon - not some junk you found on clearance at walmart. The salon lotions are safe for the beds and will not jeopardize your tan. The associates will be able to help you pick a good lotion for your skin and budget. If you toss me your budget I can make a couple suggestions too (my fave for any tanner is "Perfectly Dark" its amazing!).

I would wear some underoos or cover the pink places with a towel for a portion of the session. Places that dont usually see the sun are more likely to burn than are the legs and face which are typically more difficult to tan since they are SO used to sun and are frequently exfoliated. If you keep tanning those areas WILL burn and then the rest of your week membership is gone. cover them for a day or for 1/2 a session and you are more likely to have a successful pain-free experience without harsh lines.

And even if you were pregnant - the harmful aspect of tanning is with overheating and there are ways to protect against it if you have the ok to do so from your doctor. But thats another story.

Every time you burn, you are increasing your chances 10% of getting skin cancer! NEVER tan while you are even pink! Skip your next session! You shouldn't go everyday anyways! I worked in tanning salons long enough to see what people do to their skin! We wouldn't allow someone who was even pink to tan, we made them wait a day!
